Buy as many as you can fit in the peli
Theodore Miller 09.09.2019
Just bought my 3rd 4th and 5th. These things can get you out of a lot of sticky situations, but most importantly they've allowed me to eliminate all stands on the drum kit. With these, pluss a couple a56d's i can have a full 12 channel drum patch with no stands needed.
This is great for quick turnarounds as a touring engineer as the kit just has to be set up, and all mics are already pre clamped perfectly in place, just plug and go. Then when the show is over, just pull all cables and the kit can get lifted off.
Also useful in weird situations, need to get two cats over the stage access with no cable ramp? Clamp them up high and use them as 'hooks', taping the cables onto them.
The price has gone up by £10 since i bought the first two. Not a deal breaker but not ideal.

Overall id suggest investing in a pair, You'll love what they allow you to do.

BB
I use it for kick
Branimir Bozak 13.11.2018
Excellent mic claw for congas, or - if you are like me - for kick.
Too bad there is no version with a flat clamp, this way I have to protect the kick drum hoop with layers of gaff tape before I hook up the LP claw - since it has a profile suited for conga rims.

Threads are good, screws too, will hold place during the gig, no problem!

Versatile, strong and stable

This is a really well made unit, all the parts are machined accurately so the moving parts won't jam and it always works as it should. The Z-bar stays in the position you set and never sags. It can grip the rims of a drum or the rod of a cymbal stand, however I believe if the claw was re-designed it could attach to the thicker base of a stand, for cymbals, snare, hi-hats etc. This is its limitation. Also, when used this way it can sometimes slip around the rod, even if knurled. A rougher finish would help. But the other similar mounts I have tried also have this problem. This is minor though and the Claw fits onto all sorts of things, such as the tuning lugs of congas, even kick drum legs. You can set it at any reach and angle and it is strong enough to stay there, so long as the place you mount it is strong enough. Despite the minor limitations it's still an extremely useful tool and has been a classic for decades, for good reasons. The current model has been improved. It's the best mount on a snare or tom tom rim for SM57's, M201's or mics of similar size and weight. Great stability and strength, always reliable. I take mine to every gig
