Great Snare Skin
Daniele Lupo 24.02.2021
Let me start by saying I am a guitarist who has been in several bands. I am not too experienced with drums, but I have heard a fair share of them, from expensive kits to regular cheap stuff.
A year back I bought my 3 year old a drum kit as he seemed prone to drumming, and at some point the snare skin broke (yeah he punctured it with a toy), I had initially patched it and it was fine, but then the crack extended to the entire skin rendering the snare unplayable.
I bought this Remo as replacement and all I have to say is "wow".
Right out of the box the quality feels sooooo much better than the Millennium stock skin. What an amazing difference.
The previous Snare skin was made of some plastic material, I am not sure about this one but it's definitely no plastic.
The sound is much crispier and present, resonates a lot better and more lively without necessarily having a higher volume.
I am honestly tempted to replace all the skins on his drums cos Remo just sounds so much better.

Really love the emperor coated batter heads. I use these on all my toms (10, 12, and 16)

Pros:
Has that dry rock sound with good but controlled resonance
The coating is durable

Cons:
I'm using 3 of these on my toms and one came with a small aesthetical defect on the coating, the QC is not the greatest.

My favourite dumhead!
Anonymous 05.12.2014
I used to use coated emperors for pretty much everything! But I've come to accept that they just aren't suitable for live playing. They don't have the same durability and reliability of tuning as some of the competitor's products, particularly in the Evans line. So they have been replaced as my live head of choice for most applications. Having said that though, they are still my favourite drumhead, particularly for jazz and swing. Yes, they are double ply heads and are a little bit heavier than most people like to use for jazz playing. But I love the tonal qualities of these heads, both on snare, kick and toms. They have a really warm and dark tone with lovely sustain and great attack for accents. Really beautiful drumhead. I don't use them live any more, but I won't use anything else in the studio!

Warm, deep tones
FelixD 14.02.2014
This drumhead gives you a nice warm, deep sound with not to much overtones. Especially if you don't have a high end set, this head can improve the sound of your toms. A single ply head will have a more open sound with more overtones, but the Emperor Head is not as dead as for example a pinstripe.
The coating does wear with use, but on a tom it takes quite a while.
