6. Housing

“What’s there even to say about the housing of a combo case?” some might ask, “It’s just a wooden box with some wiring and speakers inside.’’ This is for the most part correct, nevertheless there are some small but important differences to take into account. As mentioned in the connections section, keyboard amps often serve as a stage monitor and as such should carry the sound directly to the musician. For this reason most manufacturers don’t use the standard “box form” but rather a “wedge” variation. Like PA floor monitors these models have a slanted base so that the speaker is pointed up, in the direction of the musician. Particularly successful are the models that are a combination of both types, like those offered by Hartke:
