Toontrack EZmix 2

I got EZ Mix2 for forty-something euros on sale, and I'm happy with the purchase at that price. Personally I wouldn't pay much more than that though. I have EZ Drummer2 and EZ Keys, and EZ Mix2 is my least favourite of the three.

Applying fixed presets basically goes against every notion of mixing. If you're remotely interested in learning to mix, EZ Mix2 will not help you learn anything. EZ Mix2 is squarely for people who just want to add a quick, one-click polish to their raw tracks.

EZ Mix2 can help such a person quickly take a song from sounding muddy, thin and one-dimensional to something which is at least listenable. However, it is important to realise that, whilst the sonic choices you make may sound great on your system in your room, the mix will not necessarily translate to lots of environments and devices (which is at the core of proper mixing).

The effects used in EZ Mix2 are provided by Overloud, so that's pretty cool. On the downside, the add-on packs are too expensive, considering that they're just collections of settings for the FX/Amps/Cabs that are already included in the core program.

EZmix 2 is a quick and easy way to add inserts on to tracks and even different amp sims and tones for bass and guitar etc. The parameters of each effect you choose are very limited, predemoniantly just to two dials that you can turn up or down. However, if you are either new to mixing, want to get some tracks recorded and sounding a little more professional without breaking the bank, or just want to add a few extra options to your toolkit, this is a pretty nifty bit of kit. It is incredibly easy to use, and with a few instances of it on a project you can get a pretty killer sounding song without forking out on tons of additional plugins.

Ich mische nun seit etwa 15 Jahren Musik live und im Recording-Bereich ab und muss sagen, dass ich mir EZmix2 im Sale aus reinem Interesse gekauft habe. Ich finde, dass es für Leute, die schnell eine solide Mischung haben wollen, eine wirklich gute Software ist! Man kann die Presets prima nutzen und es wird ja auch einiges an virtuellen Amps geliefert. Ich finde es selbst eher etwas sonderbar nicht einfach selbst zu mischen, aber ich denke, dass es hier etwas sehr cooles möglich macht: Referenz!

Gerade als Beginner ist es eine wunderbare Möglichkeit um mal zu schauen "wie es denn klingen kann!" ohne wirr im Plugin-Dschungel die Übersicht zu verlieren. Und wenn es dann passt, dann ist das ja auch super! Ansonsten kann man das PlugIn ja auch einfach wieder bypass/en und selbst weiter schauen. Also, dafür finde ich es absolut genial!

Es gehört zum Toontrack-Modell, dass es einige Erweiterungen gibt, die (in dieser Serie) wirklich sehr teuer sind. Ich habe mir im sale auch das "Ambient" Pack geholt und bin davon eher etwas enttäuscht, da es recht wenig bietet, finde ich. Da wäre ich beim vollen Preis sehr genervt gewesen. Okay, es ist wirklich ein spitzen Hall und ein "Let?s go!" für ambient Gitarren, aber mal ehrlich: Es ist ja nun nicht sooooo kompliziert einen guten Delay / Reverb für Gitarren zu finden, oder? Die Erweiterungen sind daher für Beginner vielleicht wichtig, aber die werde ich mir eher nicht holen, weil mir das dann doch zu teuer ist.

Ich werde in manchem Mix oder Master sicher mal schauen "wie es denn Toontrack machen würde" und das ist ein wirklich guter Standard! Top!

Nachtrag: Habe mir nun noch die Erweiterung "Guitar Gods 2" im sale geholt und die finde ich sehr viel umfangreicher als andere, allerdings habe ich neulich damit versucht eine Songidee aufzunehmen und der Klang vom ehrenwerten Herrn Abesi war eher dürftig. Ich werde damit nicht wirklich seriös arbeiten, denke ich! Da klingt alles von Overloud oder ähnlichen Anbietern deutlich besser!
