Toontrack SDX The Rock Foundry

This SDX was the first to be released after the release of Superior Drummer 3.
The kick drums are instantly great without any processing or effects. The toms are also far better than anything in the Superior Drummer 3 core library.
It has a nice big but not distant ambiance to the kit piece making it perfect for big heavy loud rock tunes.
The snare drums may not be as meaty and full sounding as I would like. The tama bell brass sounds less than half as good as the core libraries Tama for example. They seem to be missing a lot of the bottom snare mics bite and rattle.
The Toontrack presets are great and it has a very convincing Metallica Black Album preset called LA 1991 which is a lot of fun to mess around with.
The bonus mono kit hasn?t been very useful thus far but within time I may find a use for it.
Overall it?s a great addition to your drum sounds and perfectly aimed at the big studio heavy rock sound.

Ich bin eigentlich nicht so der Bewertungsschreiber, aber hier muss ich mal eine Ausnahme machen. Nachdem ich mir das Upgrade zu Superior Drummer 3 gekauft hatte, war ich doch etwas enttäuscht. Nicht etwa von dem Umfang oder den Möglichkeiten, sondern eher vom Grundklang. Ohne hier direkt in die tiefen von SD3 abzutauchen klingen die Drums für mich weniger direkt und massentauglich als im SD2. Gut, vielleicht ist das auch reine Gewohnheit, dachte ich mir.

Mit dem Teaser-Presets von Bob Rock im SD3 Core Paket konnte ich auch nicht so viel anfangen, allerdings kam das eher an meine Vorstellung von Rock-Drums heran und diese Presets setzen sich auch sehr gut im Gesamtmix durch. Was lag da also näher als dem Rock Foundry Paket eine Chance zu geben. Ich habe mir zuvor die einzelnen Sets einmal bei YouTube angeschaut, und das hat mich überzeugt. Also auf einen Samstag Nachmittag direkt bei Thoman bestellt, gleich heruntergeladen, installiert und ausprobiert.

Um es kurz zu machen, ja, die Presets sind besser, viel besser, als die im Core Paket. Toontrack versucht sicherlich möglichst viele Musikstile im SD3 unterzubringen, allerdings kommt mir der Rock-Sektor etwas zu kurz. Mit dem Rock Foundry Set, ist mein Bedarf an Rock Drums zunächst mal gedeckt. Tolle Kits und vor allem den Presets von Toontrack sollte man mal Beachtung schenken. Die Bob Rock Kits sind sicherlich nicht schlecht, aber Toontrack beweist hier, dass man viel über Drums weiß und sich absolut nicht hinter Größen wie Bob Rock verstecken muss. Wer SD3 benutzt und Rockdrums produzieren will kommt meines Erachtens nicht an diesem Erweiterungspaket vorbei.
