A true marvel!
This compressor is astounding! The FMR RNC is a versatile, well-built and unique compressor that gives the big boys in the compressor business ? costing many times more ? a run for their money.
Right out of the box the RNC is really sturdy but not sluggish; the knobs feel precise and the enclosure is assembled well. The controls are and do exactly what you would expect.
The sound of the RNC is, in two words, punchy and transparent. It works great on the master bus, drum bus etc. The unit gives a lively 'bounce' to many sources, and even with large amounts of gain reduction no unpleasant compression artefacts are audible. (Some grainy distortion occurs when very fast attack and release times are set at the same time, as is expected.)
Where this unit really shines, however, is the "Super Nice" mode. On this mode the "compression" itself is almost completely inaudible. This is very good for sources that are difficult to compress and control. This is my "go to" unit for compressing jazz piano. That is an application where ? in my opinion ? dynamic control is needed without any significant compression artefacts. The RNC handles this brilliantly in the Super Nice mode; it clears the low mids and solidifies the bass but retains the lively natural sound of the acoustic piano.
The metering is good, and fact that you can use the device at an insert point with single TRS-jack is really clever.

Nice tabletop compressor
Robust, clear compressor. I use it mainly between my preamp and interface when doing vocals or bass. Works well, Super Nice is very usable. Would be nice to have a power button so one star deducted because of that.
