2. Why the Recorder?

Despite its infamous classroom or beginner’s image, the recorder is in fact just as difficult to play well as most other instruments. As with any musical discipline, there’s no substitute for dedicated training and practice, but a good instrument certainly helps, and choosing the right one for your purpose is important.Closely related to the flute and Irish tin whistle, the recorder can be used for a wide range of music from Medieval to modern, including folk and particularly Baroque repertoire. The standard treble recorder has a similar but slightly smaller range than the modern flute and oboe, and is at home in a variety of musical scenarios - solo, recorder consort, and mixed instrumental Groups.
