Does what it says on the box!
I use this for mixing in my home studio. Mainly songs that I've recorded for my own band. I saw a few reviews online and was tempted to see what the fuzz was all about.
First of all, this thing does what is promised! It streamlines your workflow. Instead of thinking about which plugin to insert, you can just mix. With console 1, this isn't just a marketing slur, but the actual truth. I love it!
Second, the sound is really solid. I don't have experience with real life analog consoles, so I don't know how close it comes to the actual desk, but I can say that the EQ sounds very musical and I really like how the sound of the drive can be darkened or brightened. Some people say that the limitation of only 4 band EQ is a bummer, but I've come to notice that it actually helps me make smarter decisions and not overdo things. And if it's needed, you can always route the signal to a BUSS and ad another instance of console 1.
Built quality seems really good and I don't have any doubt that this wouldn't last daily use for years. One complaint though is the placement of the usb port in the back. The way I have it set up, the cable kind of sticks too far out and the cable then is a little bit on the way of my laptop keyboard. I guess this is mainly a visual thing and you have to have the port somewhere, so the back panel is a logical place for that. Perhaps an angled usb cable could fix this for me.
One thing I would like to see added to possible future versions of the Console 1 is basic transport control. Then this thing would make my keyboard completely obsolete during a mix.
All and all, worth every penny!
