A nice viola for beginners
I was a bit anxious at first about buying this viola as it didn't have that many reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The overall appearance is very clean, no mistakes in the varnish.
The sound is quite good for a 250 € viola and I believe it is good enough for someone just starting out. I had some trouble tuning it in the beginning with the tuning pegs, my teacher said the pich of one string changed when she was tuning another string using the peg. She said it might just require a lot of playing to "stabilize" it. In the beginning the viola went out of tune quite a lot as well. I have been playing with it for almost a year now and these problems are no longer an issue. It stays quite well in tune now, too.
Though after every practice session my left hand fingertips turn black for some reason. It says the fingerboard is made out of ebony (a black wood) but I've also heard that fingerboards are sometimes painted black to make the colour more intense. BUT I've also heard black fingertips can be a result for having thicker strings than say in a violin. I don't get any colour residue from just rubbing the side of the fingerboard so the strings are most likely the cause. It doesn't really bother me and it's nothing serious in my opinion.
Overall this is a good viola for a beginner and it can serve you well for the first few years of your new hobby. In addition, pay close attention to the size. This viola is a 16'' instrument, so quite big. I have long arms so it was a good fit for me. Make sure someone measures your arm lenght carefully!
