Excellent mixer/12 channel audio interface/12 channel sd card recorder

I bought this mixer to record my synths / sequencers / instruments on multiple tracks, with and without laptop.

Pros:
+ A lot of features for money in a compact size that fits in a small space with a traditional mixer layout.
+ Easy to use once you get yourself familiar how it operates, mostly one button per function and settings for new recording is fast to setup.
+ A good audio quality, compared to my earlier mixer and audiointerface combo my noisefloor dropped 10-15db even with most synths attached to my laptop with usb (my old mixer had usb audiointerface feature but it could not be used because it introduced groundloop whine to audiosignal)
+ Supports bluetooth audio (->play ipad synth straight to mixer without wires or play sounds to bluetooth audio device)
+ Supports footswitch (start & stop recording, markers, loop points, etc)

Cons (only couple minor things):
- There is a learning curve to getting know this mixer, there is so many ways to set this mixer for different workflows that you do have to read the manual, watch some videos and even go thru some forum posts.
- Because this is digital mixer there is some situations where analog mixer will behave differently (if you turn channel EQ mid to other position from middle, while input gain and output gain are really high out, you might hear pop sound because channel EQ is basically an digital effect that turns on. Highpass cut/boost, lowpass cut/boost or master EQ does not do this and with reasonable gain staging you will never have to worry about this issue)
- If you want to setup different mix for second headphones or listen thru headphones while monitors are muted or other way around, it can be done thru sub mix but it is a bit convoluted way (get the model 16 or 24 for that feature) I don't mind because I only use one pair of headphones.
- Audio input level metering is done in a bit odd way. Input level is one visual line of -12db without any other visible increments in lcd screen for all the channels. Physical output level metering next to screen with traditional db scale is just master output or solo channel level but you can't use the physical output meter to monitor input levels because gain is relative to your knob positions.

Conclusion:
Excellent device for homerecording and podcasting, still liking it a lot after half a year of using it almost daily.

Todella monipuolinen laite

Tämä on monipuolinen laite musiikin harrastajalle. Kokonaisuus huomioon ottaen olen kyllä erittäin tyytyväinen tähän laitteeseen. Tässä hieman arvioitani laitteesta omassa käytössäni.

Huonoa:
- Ei mitään :)

Hyvää (ellei peräti loistavaa):
- Äänitysmahdollisuus suoraan laitteeseen asennetulle muistikortille ja siten käyttö itsenäisesti esim. bänditreeneissä.
- Mikseritoiminnot ovat riittävät omaan käyttööni. Jokaisella kanavalla oma etuvahvistimensa ja esimerkiksi kompressorinsa. Äänen reititysominaisuudet aivan riittävät käyttööni.
- Käyttö MIDI-ohjauslaitteena DAW:lle (minulla Ableton Live). DAW:n säädöt onnistuvat siis fyysisiä kontrolleja käyttämällä. Aivan mahdata ominaisuus.
- MIDI-liitäntä (in ja out)
- Käyttö yleismikserinä musiikin kuunteluun ja soittimille (itsellä kitara, mikki, pari syntetisaattoria).
- Musiikin soittaminen langattomasti vaikkapa kännykällä bluetooth-yhteyden kautta.

Tämän laitteen monipuolisuus ja toimivuus tarkoituksiinsa tekevät minusta todella tyytyväisen käyttäjän. Suosittelen lämpimästi.

Aivan mahtava laite kotiin

Laite ollut käytössä vuoden ja olen erittäin tyytyväinen. Laitetta voi käyttää äänikorttina, mikserinä ja raiturina. Aina ei jaksa avata konetta kun haluaa nauhoitella ja tällä se hoituu. Helppo nauhoitella omia vedoksia ja sitten myöhemmin siirtää ne tai nauhoittaa uudelleen koneella. Ainut mitä välillä kaipaa, olisi ehkä enemmän stereo-liitätäntöjä, mutta toistaalta laite on juuri hyvän kokoinen nyt.

'Brilliant build quality' was the first thing I said to myself as I popped the box. Having read the manual back to front many times whilst waiting on delivery, I found that in half an hour I had set up and ready to go - card formatted, click track working, synced to BFD3 and USB audio streaming out of BFD into a pair of channels.

All I can say is that Tascam have really nailed it with this one, and if they put MIDI etc on the 24 track it would be a truly pro workhorse. However, 10 track recording (and 2 master track) are adequate for my needs; primarily used out of my studio to record jam sessions with buddies.

If you want to get really picky then here's the dirt:

1/ Only two insert points (but appreciate the cost implications of putting them on all channels). I must say though a pair of master inserts would have been nice.

2/ Only 2 fx sends. Again a cost issue - also no dedicated simple returns. If you use the built in FX you are good to go, but if you patch in a box then you are going to lose 2 channels for a stereo return.

3/ Tascam must be the master if syncing to other gear or your DAW. Does not worry me.

EVERYTHING else is just brilliant and a lovely sounding machine it is. Tascam have a certain magic, especially with digital gear. Blindfold, you would swear it is analogue, but to be fair its better than that.

Conclusion, money well spent. Great value, simple to use, and all you need to do is RTFM :)
