I'm a guitarist and I bought this violin on a whim, because I wanted try one out and because it was cheap. Note that I have no previous experience with violins and have not played any more expensive violins.
First of all, the build quality of the instrument seems good. No jagged edges, badly glued parts or anything like that. To my eye, nothing screams "this is cheap". Instead, it looks like a quality instrument and to me, feels like one too.
I was most surprised by the case it comes with, it's a very high quality hard case I personally associated with much pricier instruments. Overall the kit contains everything you need to get playing.
The sound? Again, I'm a complete beginner, but I know what a violin is supposed to sound like and while most of the time I fail to produce nice sounds from the instrument, that's more down to my lack of ability and not any fault of the instrument's. Had a friend play it, who actually knows how to play one, and it sounded fine. Should mention though, I was surprised to find out how loud it can get!
All and all, if you've ever wanted to mess around with a violin and don't want to invest too much, you can't go too wrong with this one.
