Trick Drums Dominator Single Pedal

Trick came up with a more entry-level approach to their innovative designs. VV1s were a bit steep on the pricing since I was looking for double pedal setup, which would have ended up costing me over 800 euros. For 600, I got these and I am very satisfied.

I find myself constantly adjusting the tension on my pedals (I'm a beginner and still learning the proper techniques), so having this option to adjust it from the top and being compression spring also eliminates all the sound that regular spring pedals do. I also have had back problems, so eliminating the need to go all the way down to the floor is a back-saver!

I practice at home with Tama's cushioned beaters to practice with low sound and before I was always a little annoyed by the sound that even the high end pedals did, because of the limitations in design. It's all gone now, I can practsice almost to no sound while these pedals are totally silent.

Also, putting myself first to direct drive instead of chain I think can have a strong positive impact on my learning and developing technique, as mistakes become more apparent right away because of the "directness" of the drive.

One feature which I would have hoped is to be able to change the drive to other types like chain or belt, to change on what feel or musical style the player is after, but this is a minor complaint. There could technical disadvantages to this that I am not aware of as a novice enthusiast.

They are build very solid, they are light, they're black and they have just the greatest lever for super easily and quickly attach and remove the pedal and it holds it place very well.

The beater isn't just looking quite cool, performs very well. Weight is good, the feel is great and the length: it's maybe an inch or 2-3 centimeters longer than my other beaters, and because it looks like it can hit 24" bass drum dead center, it's great news for anyone looking for that kind of setup to build (like myself).

One of the reasons for my purchase was the ability to adjust the angles of the beater and feet plate and look for my "own angles" to fit my feet. I think this feature will shine later on, now they are great at their default positions. Only thing missing I find is the ability to check the position of the overall "system". This is very hard to explain. But if I want to have the beater angles of the two pedals to mach each other, I have to take them and put side by side and carefully adjust. A more convenient option would be to have an added meter/gauge _relative_ to the rest of the pedal, as now the beater and the foot place are only relative to each other and not the pedal itself. So now way of check any "default" positions or set two pedals to mach without side-by-side comparison.

I stumbled onto this pedal pure by research for a pedal with adjustable beater height.
This was necessary for my 18" kick, because the beater on my classic 1st gen Iron Cobra just couldn't be lowered enough.

I searched the net for the best pedals around.
Then I came across this.
The beater head can be lowered, but I was especially interested in the optional laser trigger add-on.
Also from Trick, its their own design.
I ordered the both, as a bit of a gamble, since the internet didn't provide too many examples about the trigger.

To make a long story short: it works beautifully. For me.
I installed the trigger add-on via an internet video manual, tightened it, and it worked immediately.
No piezo vibration, just the laser checking movement..which means no more false triggers by vibrations. It's a game changer. With a price.
For the price of the laser trigger add-on alone, you'll already buy yourself an excellent kick pedal..
But. This means you will always have your build in kick trigger around, it will always trigger the same even if you would use a piece of wood as a kick..
It even got a blue led which flickers at every trigger.

The pedal itself...it took some time for me to find the right set up. Experimented with beater weights, beater heights, spring tension and footboard angle, and eventualle found my sweet spot, after weeks of trying.

The old Iron Cobra (single chain, rolling glide) is a fabulous, light and fast pedal, durable, reliable, never had to replace anything.
I will always keep it and use it for the acoustic gigs.
The Trick plays even lighter and...it's totally quiet. Not a squeak during action.
Very happy with it, and due to the price it's exclusive, but worth every penny.

I didn't give it 5 stars for it's features: because it hasn't got a toe stopper option.
Which I'm very much used to.
Had to learn some footing without again, which took weeks.

Great control and level of adjustability. You can basically do anything you want with this pedal. It's easy to use with a very simple clip to attach to your kick drum.
What's also great is all the details to adjust all aspects from weight to balance and response.
I use it over my Tama Iron Cobra now all the time!

Tengo poco más de medio año con este pedal y lo único que tengo para decir son cosas buenas! Estuve un largo tiempo intentando decidir por un pedal con "direct drive" y después de mil reviews y la grandísima ayuda de el equipo de Thomann, me decidí por este.

Fisicamente, a mi parecer, es muy bonito. Su manufactura es impecable! partes de aluminio/metal por todos lados, tornillos, su "beater" de metal... me parece fenomenal el diseño. La caja lleva velcros para pegarlos debajo del pedal, muy buenos por cierto; aparte de una llave para poder llegar mejor a algunos de sus tornillos.
Su funcionamiento es también muy bueno. No he tenido el más remoto problema con él, no soy un pro ni de cerca pero todos los movimientos que puedo hacer a la fecha con él, van perfectamente y con tantas cosas para modificar, le encontrarás el punto exacto seguro! Yo llevaba probando unos meses y hasta ahora creo le he pillado la tensión correcta.
Es un pedalazo y venden todas las partes por separado en caso de que alguna de ellas (después de no se cuánto uso) se rompan!
