After many, many years my now go to strings
When testing this set of strings I discovered the following:
1) Very nice tone !
2) More output compared to other nickel-wound strings of same gauge
3) More stretch for extreme bends
4) Keeps retention better over time compared to other strings
5) Easy to play and nice feel
6) Improved tuning stability
7) A pretty long-lasting "new-string-sound"
8) Keeps that "I just changed my strings feel" much longer than regular strings
My conclusion: Going forward the NYXL series will be my favorite set of strings for most of my electric guitars.
Yes, they are considerably more expensive than the standard D'Addario EXL series or similar brands, so it's up to the customer to decide whether those differences or improvements are worth it.

Worth it
I have 15+ guitars and have always used "standard" strings that are cheaper than this set. I wanted to put the extra money to test "higher" quality strings, thinking that I would likely would not notice much of a difference, which would validate my assumption that my usual strings do the job perfectly. I was really surprised about the tone and feel of these strings, still feeling fresh after a few weeks. The improvement is so noticeable that I decided to write this review!
I am glad I decided to try them: these are my go to strings now!

Silky Smooth
Up until now I had only used Ernie Balls on my guitars - I had tried Daddario on my acoustics and was pleased but never on my electrics. I bought these because a friend recommended them and boy, these are just amazing.
First off, I use low gauge strings and are constantly buying new packs. I've even bought multipacks but I doubt I will from now on. These feel like 9's, but they last like 11's. I don't know what black magic Daddario are pulling but even when I've been proper going for it on the high E I've not been worried at all. For a regular gigging guitarist who likes something low, theses will be fantastic.
Secondly the feel of these is like silk, they play fantastically and chime beautifully through a clean setting - I use a lot of fuzz too though, and they turn dark and very smooth when overdriving, just awesome.
When you first restring your guitar these do sound very metallic, but after a couple of hours of playing they develop a beautiful character. Definitely would buy again, worth every penny.

My Tele stays in tune now!
I use these strings on a Telecaster with vintage three barrel bridge. The guitar has some issues with staying in tune and with intonation (the usual three barrel complaints).
However, when I tried these strings, they rectified the entire issue with staying in tune! A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
Very very happy.

Super bendy.
Bendy yet paradoxically rigid. These strings will bend all the way to the sky yet when you hit the string your pick nearly bounces off them because they are you tough.
Definitely took a bit of getting used to but worth it for the ease of use compared to higher gauges. You probably won't be detuning much tough.
EDIT: Despite what I said above these absolutely can be dropped down to D standard no problem.

Best strings so far!
I have been using these for nearly a year now on my two guitars.
Gibson LP Classic, Fender Stratocaster, they are tuning like none! They sound is just amazing and really clear and they are easy to bend!

Like them very much
If you ever tried them then you know what I am talking about, and if you did not, you have to because they feel amazing, sound amazing, last amazing, and simply are amazing.
There are a lot of other thicknesses in the NY XL series, I tried them a few but still prefer those ones (NYXL0942)

Smooth action and clear tone
Like I wrote in the title of this review, the D'Addario NYXL0942 strings are an excellent set, mainly because of the clear tone and smooth action.
I'm using this set to substitute Ernie Ball Cobalt type strings, which are simply fantastic, but not preferable in terms of action. In my opinion, the Cobalt type have a kind of rough tact that requires some time for getting used to it.
With this D'Addario set, I can get similar tones but with a much better and smooth tact. But I think this opinion will vary a lot from one guitar player to another.

I put these on my Fender strat and I can say the there is definitely a tonal difference between these and the Ernie Ball super slinkys I used to play before. The tone sounds more crisp and more pronounced in the mid/high frequencies and it also feels a bit easier to play. Also, they last longer.
