Soldano SLO 30 Classic Head

almost 10 years back I tried for first time real deal - SLO 100 in snakeskin, the old real deal amp and immediately fell in love with dynamics and gain structure of all channels

this one made myself finally happy because:
- its 30watt tube amp which rocks even on lower volume
- has additional depht presence which I was missing on the old one (not sure but I can bet there was no go to fine tune deep tones better)
- its real deal SLO!! :)

Immediately fell in love with this one, tons of sounds from 80s to modern sounds, even has clean and nice sounding clean channel.
Also SLO 30 has great effects loop as expected in this price range, if they say its great, its really great in person! :)

It might seemed to be a little pricey, but you will get what you are paing for, real deal Super Lead Overdrive :)

(to be not that superlative, ofcourse its 30 Watt amp, so it has a little less headroom than 100 Watt amp, but you want play at home with no cracking windows, right ? :) Also if that is a no-go for you, let me say that if you have a 100watt amp and you use an attenuator, you are tonesucking your amp - always, so I tend to go with LESS is MORE :) SLO-30 is loud and LOUD enough for playing gigs even on big stages :)

Everything that is said about this amp is true. Amazing clean/crunch channel and roaring overdrive channel. Very diverse amp and it packs a punch. Gigged with it and didn't get it past 3 on master volume on overdrive channel. Depth control makes it sound like much bigger amp than it is (even though I wouldn't go overboard with depth control). Build quality seems really good and it's portable enough for gigs. Only downside that i noticed is that there is significant volume drop between crunch and clean setting on first channel. I know it is designed that way, but still it is something to keep in mind. You can work around it since you can still get pretty good cleans on crunch setting. It is very straight forward amp so don't expect many bells and whistles like in Mesa/Boogie amps. Controls are very simple and good thing is that once you set your controls (they are shared between two channels) they often sound good on both channels so there is no need for separate channel controls (if you want you can always use EQ pedal). All in all, beast of an amp!

Bei fast gleichem Äußeren (abgesehen vom kompakteren Format und 9 kg geringerem Gewicht), nahezu identischer Ausstattung (der Effektweg ist beim SLO 30 nicht im Level regelbar) ist der äußerlich größte Unterschied zum SLO 100 neben dem um ein Drittel niedrigeren Preis die Leistung: 30 W statt 100 W.
Wie klingt’s denn nun? Einfach nur leiser?
Grundsätzlich sind die SLO-Gene nicht zu leugnen, das Zerrverhalten ist dem des großen Bruders sehr ähnlich.
Unterschiedlich ist jedoch der Frequenzgang: der SLO 30 hat eine Mittennase bei ca. 1 kHz, außerdem sind die Tiefmitten (unnatürlich) geboostet. Das hat leider ein bisschen was von 80er-Jahre-Autoradio mit eingeschalteter Loudness-Taste. Grundsätzlich kommt der SLO 30-Klang komprimiert daher.
Für manch Einen mag das ein Kaufkriterium sein, in einer Metalband setzt sich der Kleine eventuell genau deswegen besser durch. Ich verbinde SLO eher mit Mark Knopfler („Darling Pretty“, das Album „On Every Street“ etc.). Diese edle klangliche Eleganz des SLO 100 hat der SLO 30 nicht in dem Maße. Insgesamt klingt der SLO 100 in allen Belangen irgendwie „größer“, souveräner als der SLO 30.
Für mich muss es daher der SLO 100 sein. Ob dessen Preis angemessen ist, muss jede:r für sich entscheiden. Unabhängig vom Preis wird es allerdings schwierig sein, einen Amp dieser Güte zu finden.
Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis des SLO 30 sehe ich etwas kritischer. In dieser Preisklasse gibt es sicherlich Alternativen, die in Summe besser/souveräner als der Soldano klingen; und ein gebrauchter Soldano Hot Rod 50+/100+ ist für Manchen vielleicht die bessere Wahl als der SLO 30.

Un ampli superbe très bien construit et un outil très musical. Je l'ai acheté avec quelques interrogations, or c'est sans conteste le meilleur ampli que j'ai pu jouer. Les sonorités sont splendides, très articulées, même avec un fort gain, on perçoit clairement chaque note, la couleur du micro, etc. L'ampli est silencieux, peu de souffle même gain à fond.
Le son clair est beau, bien que ce ne soit pas le point fort du SLO, il peut être brillant ou chaud selon les réglages.
Le crunch est terrible, sans doute le plus beau que j'ai entendu : chaud, légèrement compressé, avec des médiums riches... Une beauté à laquelle les vidéos ne rendent pas du tout justice, ça semble toujours agressif, alors qu'en vrai, c'est du velours.
L'overdrive est conforme aux attentes : un gain démentiel (à 3 sur 11, on joue déjà du Led Zeppelin, AC/DC !), un médium très riche (en 3 dimensions presque) et des basses mordantes. Un régal, jouer trois notes est déjà un plaisir.
Le son coupe très bien dans le mixage et la puissance est largement suffisante. Il prend très bien les pédales, la boucle, discutable dans l'ancien SLO, est ici irréprochable. Le SLO est très polyvalent, du jazz au métal en passant par la pop, le funk ou le blues, on peut tout faire, ce n'est pas seulement un ampli à gros gain comme on pourrait le penser.
Seul bémol inhérent à la conception du SLO, on ne peut pas passer du clair au crunch rapidement, il faut manipuler deux boutons. A quand un SLO 3 canaux ? L'ampli fonctionne bien à volume modéré, mais ce n'est pas pour un appartement ! Il sonne bien à un volume déjà considérable. Le temps d'attente est long, le prix douloureux, mais je ne regrette pas.
