Nice sound but not the best intonation
bger 02.11.2020
I have a tried a few low-G ukulele sets for my concert ukulele, to find the perfect one.
This set has a very nice smooth sound, however the intonation is getting worse the higher I fret the strings. I thought it's my ukulele's fault, but with the 'New Nylgut' strings the intonation is much better even in higher positions.
To be totally precise: the C strings intonation is better from this pack, but the E and A strings are better in the 'new nylgut' pack. I don't see much difference in low G strings.

So for me the best combination is to use the C string from this, and the rest of the strings from the 'new nylgut' pack.
I will probably not buy 2 sets of strings just to use one from this set, so I will stick to the 'new nylgut'.

I would think it depends on the instrument as well, so maybe it works differently for other people.

J
The chosen string by most players
JAC 31.12.2014
Aquila seems to be the most recommended string by ukulele players world wide.

I ordered the strings to change the tuning on my uke from high g to low g, and as expected, these are of excellent quality.

When you change strings on the uke, you will need to retune regularly for a while (how long depends on how much you play) as the strings need to be "broken in" (which basically means they have to stretch).

Once these strings are "broken in", they are of the highest quality available in ukulele strings. People may have certain preferences to certain brands of strings, but Aquila is a common recommendation from the majority of ukulele players, and their quality is second to none.

Just Good

Good strings, Stay in tune nicely. The wound low G has a bit more punch than the other strings, which unbalances them slightly.

Aquila Low-G

Quality of the strings and the tone you get from them is good as always, just as expected.
The C is somewhat thicker than the Aquila's my Uke arrived in so the nut and bridge slot were a bit too narrow.
The Low G is in a seperate plastic bag to keep it fresh.

Bought these strings because this brand and type of strings gets mentioned often on the internet. The sound of my ukelele improved noticably after putting these strings on and I will keep using them.

The steel-wound string rusts pretty quickly, but other than that, they're fine. The steel string also makes squeaks when moving. Worth noting.

Good...

These are great strings and much like all of Aquila's range they sound good for an extremely long time... However... The low-G tarnishes relatively quickly and looks awful. If you're not too worried about cosmetic issues, then get yourself a set of these.
