Just the Job!
Russ - Wingates Trombone 02.02.2023
I have played a Bach 4G for 40 years and loved it. However when playing 1st Trombone in a First Class Brass Band I was starting to get too tired because of constantly playing high notes and the 4G is a BIG tenor mouthpiece - (Perfect for orchestral work but on your face all night playing higher notes can feel a bit TOO big..)
The 5G has the same bore and depth as the 4G but is 1/2 a MM less across the cup at 25.5mm (4G is 26mm) - You wouldn't believe the difference 1/2 a MM can make for playing higher notes all the way through a concert - YET the sound quality is 99% as good as the 4G. Focussed and direct but with a lovely rich quality. Highly recommended!!

The favourite orchestral mouthpiece
Fredbear 16.12.2021
The Bach 5G has been the most used mouthpiece by professional orchestral trombonists for decades.
The tone is full and rich, the articulation light and clear. However, it needs a strong, well-developed embouchure and takes a lot of air.
If you don't play often or don't play in orchestra, you may prefer a shallower mouthpiece that is not such hard work and has an easier high register.
I have a few 5Gs of different vintages and the brand new one I just bought is the best.
