Great Sounding & Great Price
Anonymous 12.09.2014
I first heard about these strings reading a guitar interview with the great session guitarist Reggie Young. For those of you who don't know who he is check him out! He was a R&B/Rock N Roll playing in the late 50's then became one of the greatest 60's soul & Pop guitarists then through the 70's till today has been the premier country player. He said he liked 10's and found 9's too heavy so these are the perfect compromise. if like me you feel this way about your strings then these are definitely worth a try. As you can see from other reviews these may well become your go to strings from now on. Great sounding, great price and great fast service yet again from Thomann! I'll be back for more thanks you...

For the right guitar, the perfect strings!
Martin9040 07.11.2014
I've used D'Addario XL strings for over 20 years, and have never had a bad set. They're long lasting, sound good and are well made. I also like the environmentally thoughtful packaging.

I first tried the EXL120+ strings 5 years ago. At the time I was playing Ibanez guitars with locking tremolo bridges, and I didn't get along with these strings at all. I thought they'd be the ideal compromise between 9's and 10's, but on those guitars I couldn't get them to intonate correctly, and the tuning stability was not perfect. I never had any issues with 9's or 10's.

Fast-forward to this year. I bought a new guitar (a Suhr S4) with a Gotoh 510 tremolo and locking tuners. On this guitar, 10's felt too stiff, but 9's were too slinky. So I thought I'd try the EXL120+ again, and on this guitar they are perfect. Intonation is easy, tuning stability is amazing, and they just suit the guitar. Unfortunately this gauge is not available here in Hong Kong, so I always order a few sets when I'm placing an order with Thomann. I hardly ever break strings, and these last me a long time, so they're excellent value.

In conclusion, these are probably not the perfect string for everyone. But try a set - you may find they are perfect for you. I don't use them on every guitar (there are other D'Addario XL sets for those) but on my Suhr, this is the perfect set.

Nice!!!

I have a set of these on my Strat right now and I like them a lot, after finding that 10s don't work for me. I plan on using them on a HB35-Plus as well, where the scale is shorter and they will feel somewhat closer to 9s. Looking forward to that.

Perfect compromise

I use them in my Strats. I find 10s a bit too much for big bends and 9s a bit too thin.

Good quality, plays smooth, low wear
JWB 19.12.2018
Quality is very good, never broke one. They are very durable (used them regularly for 4 months and they were still ok. The tone of the fresh strings is pretty bright, so not for everyone's taste. When you "play them in" they become a little warmer, I like that. They feel like 9.5 gauge strings and really helped me smoothen the transition from 9 gauge to 10 gauge.

They're Daddarios. Of course they great. Perfect to replace both 09 and 10. When10 is too heavy and 09 is too light. My new favorite strings

My ideal gauge for Strat guitars...
DraganJ 26.06.2022
Good strings, for me ideal gauge.
I like to use something that nobody do at the one hand, on another it is not too thin as 9s so you have to change strings every 7 days, not 10s that do not have such vibrations, feel, connection with Stratocaster because of scale length ( on Les Paul it is another story ) . So if You are strat player try it !!!

Inbetween perfection
Mountainhop 25.01.2020
I always bounce forth and back between 0,009 inch and 0,010 inch XL string sets of the famous Italian D’Addario brand, which started their stringmaking with violins, by the way.

This 9 “Plus” set therefore became the perfect solution for my eternal changing of thicknesses. On a Jimi like strat it sounds fine if the pickups are professional, on a Harley Benton they also give a certain brightness in the perpetual darkness, and on Squier strats and teles they also perform very good in midrange and high end.

I even put them on my Eric Clapton Signature.
