lots and lots of sound
insomnij 18.02.2020
This pedal was purchased for use in the home Studio, as well as performances in cafes(I would like).
The sound is gorgeous, and the tuning range is huge, from Hendrix of the 70s to modern Black Keys and Gary Clark Jr.
Two toggle switches allow you to make the sound unique. Need a classic Fuzz, again same translate tumblers in the lower position position
and the monitors already have the legendary sound dire straits money for nothing
Pros bag this:
1. Relatively low price(for a very high-quality and firm lotion),
2. Aluminum lightweight and durable body(very convenient to take to performances and rehearsals)
3. And a very cool appearance, the adjustment knobs have a nice smooth running, chrome-plated metal toggle switches
4. Made in NYC, USA!!!
5. Sustain - sometimes it seems that it is infinite
Of the minuses, I can only note that if there is no power supply, you will have to pick up a screwdriver and spin the pedal (4 bolts),
to get to the terminal connector. But a screwdriver is not a terrible tool, so with a little skill you can cope
Again, the Pedalboard becomes chic, plus a standard 9V power supply

Conclusion: for a little money, I got the most beautiful lotion that forms an adult and awesome sound.
In my circle of friends, I will certainly recommend this pedal.
If you compare it with the classic version and Tone Wicker, I will definitely choose the second one because of the wider settings.
I can't compare it with other older models, since the choice of sound will be more subjective.

N
Unmistakable Muff with more flexibility
Nadz 13.03.2015
I chose this pedal as I love that classic Muff sound, but there are extras on this pedal for those who want a couple of different options in one pedal. Purists might not like the added features, but personally I see nothing wrong with having more options to choose from.

The "extra additions" on this pedal are the two micro-toggles, labelled "Tone" and "Wicker" respectively.

The "Tone" switch allows you to have the full, original Muff tone circuit in the On position, or bypass the tone circuit in the Off position. This switch radically changes the sound of the pedal, and you can use it to really shape the kind of fuzz you can get out of it. In my experience, switching the tone toggle to the Off position gives me a gnarlier, crunchier Fuzz. In the On position, you get that smoother, more original Big Muff sound.
*WARNING* One thing I wasn't completely prepared for when experimenting with the Tone switch the first time I plugged this pedal in, you may want to turn your amp volume down. I had the pedal's volume quite high when playing with the tone switch in the On position, but when I flicked it to the Off position, it seemed as thought I had let the beast off the leash. It absolutely ROARED at me, it was so raucous and untamed that had it been a wild animal, it would have torn my face off. So naturally I loved it! :)

The "Wicker" switch is quite a nice addition, it seems to keep some of the higher frequencies when you turn down the sustain knob, whereas if you turned the Wicker switch off and rolled back the sustain, you would lose some highs and get a muddier sound, as you would with the original Muff. It's a nice little switch that just adds a little more flexibility when shaping your ideal tone.

In conclusion, I would say that even if you were an original Big Muff purist, this pedal is worth looking into, especially if pedal board space is an issue and you do want more tone options in your signal chain. After all, you're pretty much getting the original Muff sound but with a few extras for those times when you just want to experiment... or maybe you will find something in the extra features that you actually prefer over the original. It's worth a go!

A
Amazing pedal for great price!
Anonymous 12.01.2016
While watching big muff comparison videos on youtube I wasn't really fascinated about the wicker switch, but I bought this big muff due to it's more universal than standard ones.

When I got it I was really surprised that wicker switch makes sound so much better, especially on those super clean amps (like clean channel on JCM2000). Wicker switch gives slight treble boost, but when big muff sounds really bossy on clean channel it sounds just perfect with wicker activated. Tone switch deactivates/activates the tone knob and when it's deactivated it gives big muff a brand new sound. And I like that sound really much - I almost always play now with tone switch deactivated and wicker switch in position on.

If you want to have original big muff sound, just simply turn tone switch on and wicker off.

If you don't have big muff yet and you are looking which one to get - without a doubt get this one and you won't regret. For almost the same price you get 2 pedals in one, and all modes sound amazingly good.

Speaking about it's quality there's nothing much to talk about - it is heavy-duty made, will last you for ages.

True bypass works great, does not change your original guitar tone at all.

I highly recommend this pedal - it's definitely one of those "Must have" pedals for an absolutely amazing price!

Absolute beast!

It's a big fuzzy pedal. Not much to say. If you're after a doom/sludge sound, you'll get it really easily.

J
Tone Wicker... Maybe great, maybe pointless
JamieWilson 29.10.2022
If you want the "classic" Big Muff Pi tone, then buying this version may be pointless and a bit of a waste of the extra money. It can give you the "classic" Big Muff sound, 100% identical to the original (Wicker switch OFF, Tone switch ON). But with these added switches you have 2 variations of the Big Muff sound to try out. The "TONE" switch litterally puts the tone control circuit in or out of the signal path, so switching that to OFF gets rid of the ~1khz mid-scoop and also balances out the highs and lows more, giving you a kinda flat frequency curve but with that BMP fuzzy sustain still. The "WICKER" switch essentially adds in some more high end frequencies (3 frequencies apparently, but I couldn't tell you what those 3 are). So if you put both switches to ON you get to keep the 1khz scoop and tone control in general, and also get more high end in your tone on top of that classic sound.

So in summary...

WICKER OFF & TONE ON
100% the classic BMP sound, this is essentially like buying the original version (Boosted low end, 1khz mid-scoop & slightly attenuated high end relative to low end)
WICKER ON & TONE ON
Low end & 1khz mid-scoop the same as the classic BMP, but some of the high end frequencies are added back in rather than being attenuated (I don't mean the BMP is cutting high-end, like it does for the 1khz mids, but the classic BMP circuit let's through more low-end than it does high-end. So relative to each other the low end is higher... The WICKER switch ofsets some of this and allows 3 high-end frequencies to pass through more than the original)
WICKER ON & TONE OFF
The frequency shaping produced by the tone control knob is removed from the circuit, getting rid of the signature mid-scoop and producing a much more flat (relative to the original) frequency response. But as well as this you still have these 3 high-end frequencies being allowed to pass through the circuit without any attenuation. The result, essentially you get flatter mids, a little boost to the low-end and much more high-end in your tone, producing a much more "shrill" sounding fuzz than the classic thick bottom, scooped sounding tone of the BMP classic.

T
Difficult to set up pedal, but with a great sound
TTguitar 10.03.2020
The big muff is a classic among guitar pedals. It can add a lot of sustain and power to your solos or "dirt" to your rhythm playing. The tone wicker function adds a lot of higher frequencies, so its more versatile than an ordinary big muff. However this pedal does not work well with other pedals on my pedalboard. It does not work good especially with the Ts mini and the blues driver.
Pros:
-classic big muff sound with extra features
-great for solos, especially if you play from the 12th fret or higher
-the tone and sustain potenciometer have a wide range
- it comes with a sticker :)
cons:
-does not work great with other pedals
-the wicker functions sounds good only with humbuckers (at least in my case)
-the tone switch is pretty useless

G
Classic Big muff sound, with a super switch
GearHead:) 09.11.2019
This is my main go to fuzz pedal. You can get all the well known big muff sounds with this pedal. It has a small footprint on your pedal board (compared to the original).

The major pro of this pedal is the wicker switch. When it is off the pedal is fat and classic big muff. When engaged, the bass frequencies are tightened up a bit and the mids are pushed a little, producing a more modern vibe fuzz tone.

The con is the tone on off switch. You have to be careful when cranking this pedal with the tone switch on. The moment you turn off the tone control, the pedal really jumps in volume. In a live environment, I would just leave the tone switch on or off for the entire set as the volume difference between these two settings are significant.

All in all I would recommend this pedal. The combination of fat classic big muff fuzz tones (wicker not engaged) and more modern mid pushed fuzz tones (wicker engaged) makes this a great pedal.

Beefy!

Real muff tone in a small package with additional flexibility! I have since moved on to a Big Muff nano, which is a little brighter and meets my needs well, but this is definitely the better pedal overall.

Jp
little confusing
John paul jones 28.02.2019
quite solid sound on it's own but when it comes to play with the band u need to know how to deal with this pedal.
- the difference in volume between tone switch On/Off is too big.
- the compression of the sound with tone switch off makes it hard for the fuzziness to come out in a band context.
- the power without the tone switch off is amazing but I wanted a fuzz not a distortion pedal.
