An ST model for the modern age

Electric Guitar Harley Benton ST-20HSS SB Standard Series

The Harley Benton ST-20HSS SB features a poplar body in the classic ST shape and a bolt-on maple neck, both of which are finished in a modern and eye-catching matt black. The fingerboard is made from dark-coloured amaranth with contrasting white dot inlays to give the player optimum orientation anywhere on the neck. This guitar can cover a wide range of styles, from Blues and Jazz through to Rock, Alternative, and Metal thanks to its combination of a humbucking bridge pickup and single coil pickups in the middle and neck positions, which means it can sound like a typical ST-type guitar or deliver full-sounding humbucker tones. And as a bonus for players who want to experiment with different string gauges and tunings, the ST-20HSS SB also features a double-action truss rod that allows optimised adjustment of the neck curve.

Sonic options in abundance

The Harley Benton ST-20HSS SB's three pickups are governed by a master volume control and a five-way blade switch, which allows the player to select each pickup individually or to combine each pair of adjacent pickups (bridge and middle or middle and neck). The guitar's two tone controls are assigned to the neck and middle pickup respectively, allowing the player to dial in a brighter or darker tone according to taste, and the vibrato system is synchronised, i.e. bridge and tailpiece are combined in a single, pivoting assembly.

For those first guitar solos

The Harley Benton ST-20HSS SB features the 648mm scale length and 42mm nut width that are commonly found on ST models, so it is perfect for beginners who plan on upgrading to a more high-end model later on - and its modern C-shape neck profile means that budding six-string wizards can learn to play on an instrument that has the same basic measurements as countless other guitars. The 22-fret fingerboard provides ample room for maneovre when playing your first solos and is relatively flat thanks to its 12" radius, so beginners will also have no problem with string bends - a feat made all the easier by the light-gauge .009 to .042 strings with which the guitar comes as standard.

About Harley Benton

Since 1998, the Harley Benton brand has been catering for the needs of numerous guitarists and bassists. In addition to an extensive range of stringed instruments, Thomann's house brand also offers a wide choice of amplifiers, speakers, effect pedals, and other accessories. In total, the range includes over 1,500 products. Built by established names in the industry, all Harley Benton products combine quality and reliability at attractive and affordable prices. The continuous expansion of the range ensures that Harley Benton always provides new, exciting, and innovative products that keep players perfectly in tune with the musical world, day after day.

Pop, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Rock, and more

The Harley Benton ST-20HSS SB packs an impressive level of musical versatility into an affordable beginners' instrument. The guitar is equally suited to crisp-sounding Pop melodies and snappy Funk licks, and the single coil middle pickup provides a smoother tone for Bluesy double-stops and clean Jazz chords, while the neck pickup is ideal for singing lead sounds - and of course the bridge humbucker is the go-to when you want to play overdriven Rock riffs. This versatility combined with the ST-20HSS SB's affordable price makes it a no-brainer for both beginners and advanced players who are looking for a second instrument that won't break the bank. What is more, this guitar provides a great basis for experimenting with different modifications.

To be true, it is my first electric instrument and I have only positive impressions about it. As I used to play acoustic guitar it was important for me to try as much as possible versatile instrument to understand if electric is mine, and I made the right decision when chose the Harley Benton ST-20HSS SB Standard Series. After several months, of course, I want some more and sometimes look for more advanced instrument, but then I take this guitar in my hands and understand that I didn't try this or this... It is amazing, and by this I remembered my teenages when I got my first classic guitar :)

To criticize I should only mention (1) some negligible cosmetic roughnesses (but they are almost invisible), (2) a bit angled neck (the fat E string sometimes goes out from neck on higher frets) and (3) some instability in the tone controls work in the neck-mid position (in the beginning sometimes they did nothing in this position, sometimes worked correctly, but today its ok, what was the reason I don't know). Netherless, all these critic comments are nothing at the background of overall price/quality relation.

Everything is super!
Anton Ibragimov 20.08.2021
I wanted to be a rock-star one day. But I only have a classical guitar. And you can't really play rock on it. And not only rock, but also blues, funk, and so on.
And, wandering around the Internet, I came across such a wonderful store - Thomann. I compared and weighed all the prices, and concluded that any product here comes out cheaper than ours in Kazakhstan.
As a result, as a beginner, I chose the budget model. And I never regret it. The build quality is excellent. The guitar looks even better than in the photo. Everything is set up and tightened. Everything sounds great (although I tried it only in 1 combo - Harley Benton HB-15GXD JamBox, but I think it will be fine in any device). Switches, turns on everything as it should.
Conclusion - if you are a beginner, and already a seasoned guitarist - Harley Benton ST-20HSS is a great choice!

M
Great guitar
Micik 14.12.2017
Bought this guitar a while ago and im using it on a band practice..
Pros:
Finish is amazing.. no rough spots and the burst is really making the guitar shine.. Neck is comfortable c shape..stock pickups were ok but i changed them for emg 81.. which made it sound like heaven..
Cons:
Guitar is after 15 min of playing (i play pretty hard.. so that maybe wont be your problem) out of tune, so you probably have to change tuners and especially nut and seddles.. i dont know why, but i am not able to get the intonation right..

Overall if you put some work into it and do some upgrades it can become high end guitar..

Good for the price
namehaver 17.04.2020
I have had this guitar for I think 9 months and it is good for the price. I have changed the fretboard with my old squires and installed locking tuners plus a floyd rose locking nut and it still went out of tune.

But I have had numerous hours with this guitar, practicing and stuff after all it's a good guitar for the price, but you will be frustrated with how much it goes out of tune. The sound is nice tho.
