Big, fat and warm
I use this head on a 14x6,5 mapel Free Floating Snare. The drum sounds really nice, warm and fat. That's exactly what I was going for. And do not think that it does not ring because of the thickness that results from the two plies and the sticker underneath. Without dampening the drum has a nice clean and long sustain ... depending on tuning of course. After experimenting with moon gel in a recording situation we achieved a really big, wet rock sound, tuned mid- to low-range, I'd say.
Of course the coating wears off as it does with heads of this kind. But in general it lasts quite long and still sounds ok.
I'd definitively use it again.

The dot came away
Now I'm pretty sure I got a faulty product because Remo are usually amazing and I've been using them for years. The dot cracked up and crumbled inside my snare which was very annoying because it effected the sound obviously.
If the dot stayed put I'm sure this is a great head. I'll stick to the CS X though. Suits my playing better.

Not for everyone
I really liked the sound of this head. The only downside being, that I had to really batter it on the dot, to get the sound I liked.
Maybe a downside if you are alternating between blast and more rocky beats, since you won't get the same out of the head blasting due to weaker hits.
If I would make rock music, I'd love this head :P

A staple!
I've used Remo CS batter heads since the 1980's with some exceptions where I have gone to pinstripes for the even more controlled sound. An open, but yet controlled classic head. Recommended for all.

Hitting outside the black dot results in very reduced sound.
I thought the black dot would be a very nice feature - but for me it has resulted in reduced sound if I don't hit directly on the dot (or close to it). The quality of the head seems quite good though.
I'm going to try something different next time.

Great Snare Head
Among snare heads out there on the market today are some excellent makes and styles but these Remo Emperors must be in the top 3 of any ones favourites. Incredibly tough and resilient they tune up and hold that tuning so easily I'd recommend to anyone.
