The smallest euphonium ever

It is best for children to start learning an instrument at a young age - after all, they don't say "start 'em early" for nothing. The problem with many instruments that are built for adults, however - particularly low-voiced brass instruments - is that they are near-impossible for children to play. Fortunately, help is at hand in the form of Thomann's "Little Lion" euphonium, which is designed specifically for children. This instrument is built with dimensions compact enough to allow even small children (in school music lessons, for example) to play it properly. And thanks to its height-adjustable leg rest, the Little Lion can grow along with the player.

Front action design

The Thomann "Little Lion" euphonium, which tips the scales at just 2.6kg, features a 14.5cm baritone bore together with a relatively narrow bell diameter of 25.4cm (10"), and it has a compact total height of 51cm. Despite being the smallest instrument of its kind currently available on the market, however, its height-adjustable leg rest means that it can also be played comfortably by taller players. The Little Lion is equipped with three Périnet valves, which are placed in the same location as the rotary valves on a conventional tenor or baritone horn - a design known as a "front action". This makes a much more ergonomic playing position possible, enhanced even further by the three-dimensionally adjustable thumb rest. So convinced is Thomann of the effectiveness of this concept that the company has even registered a patent for it.

Perfect for brass music classes

As its name already suggests, the Little Lion is a euphonium designed specifically for children, and its size should allow children aged six and over to play it comfortably, while greater flexibility is provided by the aforementioned adjustable leg rest and particularly by the use of a neck strap (in which case the Little Lion's light weight of just 2.6kg will be immensely helpful). And despite its compact dimensions, the Little Lion still sounds like a full-fledged euphonium, and it can absolutely be played by adults provided that three valves are enough for them.

About Thomann wind instruments

Thomann-brand instruments, which are exclusively built by renowned manufacturers, now constitute a large part of Thomann’s product range alongside numerous big-name brands. With unbeatable price-performance ratios, Thomann wind instruments are the obvious first choice for students and beginners – and others too. The technical features and uncompromising sound quality they offer are usually reserved for much more expensive instruments found in the professional market segment.

Indoors and out

The large and unwieldy size of brass instruments voiced in the bass clef is a particular disadvantage for children, and even tenor and baritone horns - while among the most compact of these instruments - are still too much for a six-year-old to handle. However, that is precisely the age at which school pupils begin to learn to play, and the Thomann Little Lion euphonium is the perfect instrument to allow even the smallest primary school children to practise their first notes without having to perform a contortion act in the process. At the same time, this instrument is an excellent choice for adults to play outdoors, as its light weight makes it extremely easy to handle when using a neck strap, and it also features a socket for mounting a marching lyre.
