I use it on a 5 string Sandberg TM5 next to the 125 low B string, and seems to balance well together.
I understand the need for thicker sets some plyers prefer, but I find I like the thinner gauge for playing comfort, small bends, articulation. As Victor Wooten said, you rig has to make the work, not you :)
I like the longevity of Elixir - my hands would kill any non-coated strings in 1-2 gigs. With Elixirs I find using it for 1-2 years to be normal, especially as this bass is not my main player. This bass is in use when I want roundwound tones (which is the best I had in my life in hand sofar on this particular setup), but in general I play Thomastik Jazz Flats JF344 on a Sandberg VS4 (P style). That set is quite floppy compared to being flats, and with this Elixir gauge changing between the two basses are an ease.
So best choice (also) for your not main bass(es).
