Nice little device - don't expect more than what it is
I record soft hip hop vocals with an SM57 into a Mackie Onyx Blackjack. The Mackie can provide 60dbs of gain so I had to turn the pre all the way up to get a nice level but it gets very noisy above 40-50db so I chose the fethead to get a decent level out of the SM57 and to optimize the signal-noise ratio.
Pros: Solid design, straightforward operation, it works
Cons: I haven't found any cons. The point here is not to expect more from this device than what it is. Will it ad noise? Obviously. Will my preamp sound better with this? Obviously not.
Use this if you have a noisy preamp or/and if you record softer sound sources. Nice little gear for the money.
