I recently had to visit family in the UK and as a South African citizen I had to self isolate for 2 weeks after arriving in the UK. I decided to buy an inexpensive acoustic guitar to keep me busy while self isolating, I found the Harley Benton on the internet, had a look at some youtube reviews and decided to buy the bundle that included the bag for 104 Pounds. I did not expect much for the price but I was pleasantly surprised when I got the guitar. The build quality is very good and the finish is what you expect on very expensive guitars. No sharp fret ends, no fret buzz and a straight neck. The sound is also excellent. My initial thoughts was to leave the guitar in the UK but I was so impressed that I brought it back to South Africa with me. I can recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a easy to play and well built good value for money guitar. It plays better and has better sound than my Fender T Bucket.

Fantastic value for money

I defy anyone to find a better guitar at the price.

I travel between the UK and my parents home in Ireland every couple of months and the cost and worry of bringing a guitar with me every time meant that I missed out on playing whenever I was there. I decided therefore to buy something cheap and cheerful, have it delivered to my Irish address and thereby have a beater to keep me occupied whilst there.

I'll be honest, at the price I wasn't expecting very much and was ready to do a lot of setup work when it arrived. I was very pleasantly surprised however to discover that other than change the strings and oil the fretboard there was nothing else to do! It sounds great and holds tune really well and whilst there are a couple of detail areas where it's obviously a budget guitar (decals for inlays, etc) the performance is far beyond the cost. It also looks really good, with the dark wood and unfinished top. It's so good in fact that I was happy to bring it to a session at the local trad pub where the other players overestimated its cost by 2 or 3 times..

All in all, it's a triumph. It won't replace my favourite Takamine, but won't hesitate in buying another Harley Benton should the need arise.

Fine first acoustic guitar
MMCrow 07.11.2020
I bought this guitar as my first acoustic. I’m a beginner guitarist and I wanted a guitar like this for practice and learning songs. The first things that caught my eye was the low price point and the overall look of the guitar. Well, I can tell you that I am not disappointed with my purchase.

So, what is good about this instrument?

-It sounds good. I was surprised with the piezo pickup, it sounds really nice on my amp, but it’s a cheap amp so take that with a grain of salt.

-It feels comfortable to play. Although the guitar came with a pair of very thick strings, a bit too thick for me, it didn’t really bother me much since I was planning on changing them anyway.

-I really like the way it looks, but it’s a bit darker then on the photos, again that doesn’t really bother me. I like darker colors anyway.

-The built-in chromatic tuner and the tuners are fine. Not much to say here.

But there are some problems.

-The bridge pins were really hard to remove when I was restringing the guitar. They were really stuck in the bridge, and also the way the bridge itself is designed just made things worse. It took me a long time to get them out.

-There are some blemishes in the finish, all of them unnoticeable without a closer look. But one really made me worried when I first noticed it, it looks like a really tiny crack in the fretboard but when I graze it with my fingers, I don’t really feel anything. I really hope it doesn’t turn into a bigger problem in the future.

Overall, I would recommend this guitar If you want a cheap acoustic with a pickup. Just remember that this is a 98 € guitar. You get a lot or what you paid for.
