Dave Guardala BM Soprano HM GP

I have a Selmer series iii jubilee soprano and have been playing it for around 10 years and decided to buy a handmade BM mouthpiece because I know that they are superb mouthpieces(see below*). I tend to use the Soprano sax in a church praise band and also occasionally in a Windband.I haven’t had it for very long and I still need to practice more but I already know that with some more hard work it will be fantastic. OK ,as things stand,I have found the mouthpiece to work really well from bottom to top with the standard legere 2.5 reed .I tried the Legere Signature 2.5 and found it to be a bit too freeblowing for me ( but I know that I could control the freeblowing with a bit of work) and a bit thin on the higher notes.I would also point out that I have been practicing in my living room where the acoustics are not great, especially when playing high notes.I have not yet managed to play in a hall (due to Coronavirus lockdown)where the the acoustics are much better and I am looking forward to the day when I can let rip there.

* I have been playing Tenor and alto saxophone for around 20 years. I already have three other handmade Guardala mouthpiece pieces (Super king and MB for Tenor sax and a King for Alto saxophone).I can honestly say that these mouthpieces are fantastic but you only get out what you put in, you need to practice.If you put in the work I guarantee you that it will be worth it .These mouthpieces are better than you but they make you want to play and practice .I find practice extremely enjoyable with these mouthpieces and I look back and can only say that I wish that I had, had them twenty years ago.

De loin le meilleur bec que j'ai pu tester. Utilisé avec une anche Rico Royal 2,5.
Très grand justesse, homogénéité et précision : aucune difficulté du si bémol grave au fa# aigu. Les suraigus sortent hyper facilement jusqu'au do. C'est le seul bec qui m'a permis ça !
Côté fabrication, rien à redire, c'est quasiment du sur mesure.
La ligature rempli bien son office : coller l'anche au bec !
Le son est rond, chaud et chaleureux.
Bref, une réussite totale.

Getestet auf einem Yanagisawa CS 991, mit Forestone Hinoki MS und M, Forestone White Bamboo 2, und Legere Signature 2.

Auf der Suche nach einer kräftigeren, poppigen Alternative zum Standard Yanagisawa Ebonit 7 versuchte ich auch Metallmundstücke (spiele auf dem Tenor die goldenen Theo Wanne Durga und Ambika).
Neben diesem handmade BM lagen mir vor:
* DG Studio in Silber,
* Yanagisawa 7, und (von einem anderen Anbieter, weil hier nicht auf Lager)
* Theo Wanne Durga 7.
Durga hatte ich eigentlich favorisiert, weil ich am Tenor davon begeistert bin. Aber der Test brachte ein unerwartetes Resultat. Das Yani schied aus, weil es dem Ebonit-Zwilling zu ähnlich war. Das Durga erwies sich als das lauteste mit dem knalligsten Grundsound, war aber zu wenig konstant und „launisch“.
Blieben die beiden Guardalas von Nadir.
Erster Eindruck: Die Verarbeitung ist erstklassig. Vor allem das handmade ist eine Augenweide, edler Hochglanz, der mich dazu brachte, das Mundstück nur mit Handschuhen anzufassen. Die Ligatur viel wertiger als die übliche DG Schraube, und geliefert wurde alles einem schweren Echtlederbeutel, Meine Befürchtung, ich würde mit dem schmalen Ansatz und der größeren Öffnung nicht zurechtkommen, war unbegründet. Das BM wie auch das Studio sind leicht zu spielen; das BM hat etwas mehr Wiederstand. Allerdings war die Ansprache des BM auch problematisch im tiefen Register, und die Höhen waren deutlich dünner. Die palmkey Töne sprachen nur sehr schwer an. Der Grundklang ist ausgewogen und hat dennoch einen Kick ins Hellere, leider aber war er nicht konstant über alle Register.
Ob's an mir liegt, kann ich nicht sagen. Allerdings habe ich meine Zweifel, denn beim Testsieger, dem Studio in Silber, waren Ansprache und Klang über den gesamten Tonumfang homogen.
