Really awesome bass in this price range

First of all, I am guitarist and I have some very decent guitars in my collection so it may not be the most fair review. So starting with the bad: one of the volume controls on my first bass failed after a week. Thomann dealt with this amazingly well and I got a new bass fairly quickly. The other poor feature is that the bass requires a complete setup (the neck was completely off and needed truss rod adjustments as well as the intonation); something that could be frustrating if you are a beginner. Having done all the set up, I think the bass sounds really good and is really playable, so overall a really, really good instrument for the money. I highly recommend this.

Great budget bass!

Finally decided to take the plunge and buy a bass guitar. As a guitarist, it was recommended to buy one on the lower end of the cost scale - but not too low. Came across this bass on YouTube and my inner Phil Lynott fan wanted it immediately.

For a €250 guitar this is a fine piece of equipment. It looks great, and after some minor tweaks and adjustments it plays great too. A rather dynamic bass which can fit various styles. However, please don't expect it to feel the same as its €2500 AM P or J counterparts. It does feel it came straight from the conveyor belt at the factory, but who cares really?

Its worth every penny of the 254 that I paid for it. Great for learning licks and bashing around on and is really cool to look at!

Ich habe mir den Bass als Grundlage für ein Mod-Projekt gekauft. Abgesehen von Body und Hals möchte ich quasi alles austauschen.

Randnotiz für Interessierte:
Der erste Fender PJ Bass kostet ca. 1100€ (Deluxe Precision). In der MiM Serie gibt es keinen PJ, aber dort kostet zumindest ein P-Bass 750€ (Player Series). Zwischen Squier und MiM gibt es beim Bass nicht so viele Variationen wie bei den Gitarren. Mit dem Bass hier zzgl. Kosten für Mods lande ich bei ca. insg. 600€.

Zum Bass selbst:
Setup eher unterirdisch. Hals bananig, Saitenlage 1. Bund: astronomisch hoch und über die Saiten hinweg unterschiedlich. Saitenlage insg. astronomisch hoch. Aber: das kann man alles anpassen (lassen). Ich denke nur an das "ich" von vor 10 Jahren und ärgere mich, dass sowas für Einsteiger nicht klar ist. An alle Beginner: nehmt nach dem Kauf nochmal 50-60€ für ein Setup bei einem Gitarrenbauer in die Hand. Dann gebt ihr erst nach 3 statt 2 Monaten auf :D

Verarbeitung bei den Squiers wird immer besser. Hals ist nicht warped. Lackierung ist gut. Steg und Sättel sind ok. Bünde an den Enden gut verarbeitet. Poliert sind die Bünde halt nicht. Da ist es m.E. aber auch ok, wenn man Geld spart. Die Mechaniken bei den Squier Bässen sind besser als die der Gitarren. Die Elektronik und deren Verkabelung ist unterirdisch. Aber das kommt bei mir alles raus und wird neu gemacht. Hinweis an der Stelle: Wenn man die Potis durch CTS oder andere ersetzen möchte, die größer sind, dann passt der Tone-Poti nicht in die Aushölung. Hier werde ich wohl mit dem Dremel ran müssen. Drückt mir die Daumen.

Zusammenfassend kann man für 239€ echt nicht meckern, finde ich.
