Als het gaat om de klassieke pedalen van de rockmuziek, moet de Tube Screamer helemaal vooraan worden gerangschikt. Eind jaren '70 verscheen de Ibanez Tube Screamer 808, een overdrive met echte tube-like karakteristieken, een sensatie in die tijd. Zijn opvolger, de TS 9, was al even populair en is sindsdien te vinden op talloze pedalboards van de grote namen.

Toen de TS9 jaren geleden opnieuw werd uitgebracht, was het slechts een kwestie van tijd voordat de nog meer gewilde "originele" screamer, de TS 808, eindelijk op de markt zou worden gebracht.

Bepaald niet goedkoop, maar de cult kost ook iets... en de sound spreekt verder voor zich.

Amazing and vintage sound, but the components...

Great, vintage sound, with electric guitar (preferably neck pickup) and fender jazz bass, fantastic!!!
BUT...I had to replace the internal activation button with a more solid one, because the original one is equal to that of a clock radio. I advise you to replace it from the beginning because I suffered a lot in live performances since I ALWAYS use this pedal.

Tja hier valt niets op af te dingen, men kent hem wel, gewoon simpel en geweldig, doet wat het moet doen, zo we gewend zijn van Ibanez.

Much more than SRV sound

I bought the pedal mainly for blues played through single coils without knowing the versatility of the sounds coming out of this box.

I am running the TS808 into a modified Blackface Twin (I had a master volume added so that I can get the tubes cooking without blowing my head off).

My application:

Tele: - neck pickup makes that blues sound everyone is chasing and does it effortlessly, just plug and play.
- bridge pickup does rock is you dime the drive and and 60's clean break-up at the other end.

LP: - it just turns it into a dream rock machine.

PRS CE24: - the higher output 8515 PUPs sound awesome with this pedal. I am using the coil tap more than ever as the TS808 just makes the differences more noticeable (in a good way).

Cons: - on/bypass switch doesn't "click" when pressed
- the LED is barely visible when the pedal is ON

It stacks very well with other overdrive pedals. I have a Klon type pedal in front of it and when I have both on they create a very pleasing distortion sound.

My final thought: it makes me play differently in a positive way. It helped me come up with new ideas, encourages me to hit the guitar harder and just gives me an overall satisfactory feeling. GET ONE!

The best OD there is?

This pedal is an absolute 5 stars all around, it's rare I'd rate a product so highly. After some debate of which OD to get for my Bugera TriRec (Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier clone) I settled on this! I listened to sound clips of lots of different pedals, Ibanez TS9, Maxon OD808, Misha Mansoor signature OD, Mesa Boogie drive. I was unsure on what to get and the sheer amount of famous artists using Ibanez TS9/TS808s convinced me to settle on this pedal.

This pedal, more than anything, tightens up your bottom end and takes a way a lot of nastiness and adds definition to your gain. You can use it definitely to dirty up a clean channel, which I often do, however it excels at being used on an already overdriven amp. My amp has a boost built in, and that does not compete with the TS808. I'm using it with several guitars, Charvels with EMGs, Fender Telecaster and PRS SE 7 string. There isn't a single guitar that this pedal does not compliment!

Extremely happy with this product, perfect for the brutal metal tone I was trying to achieve. Arrived promptly and safely from Thomann!
