ASM Hydrasynth Desktop

Jong, dus moet nog e.e.a. bijgeschaafd worden. Qua bediening merkte ik dat bij het saven van macro's de desbetreffende patch van alle settings werd ontdaan. Ik heb de user manual uiteraard tot op de letter opgevolgd. En zo waren er nog een (klein) aantal minor bugs. Wel moet ik zeggen dat de weldoordachte text oleds zeer informatief zijn, echter hebben de encoders niet een hoge resolutie waardoor de decimalen doorgaans met een paar waarden gemist worden. Het kleine wave displaytje is mij veels te iel en vertelt me veels te weinig over de wave zelf. Qua features, deze synth accepteert geen externe modulaire clock, alleen maar midi of usb. Dat vind ik zeer teleurstellend want ik gebruik die externe clock om alles te syncen, zoals bijvoorbeeld op een tempo van maar een paar bpm. Had echt wat meer modular friendly mogen zijn. Qua geluid was ik uitermate impressed over de effecten, deze synth heeft zelfs een reverb freeze dat je normaal gesproken in super dure effect boxen zou hebben. Het maken van patches goed te doen met een enorme weelde aan wave samples. Je hebt echt geen andere samples meer nodig. Qua afwerking mooi milspec kastje met stevige aircraft grade knobs. De pad leds hadden van mij allemaal gewoon wit of helemaal uit gemogen. Toch heb ik deze absoluut geweldige synth geretourneerd om voor een nog duurdere wavetable synth te gaan (bij de goede Thomann uiteraard) omdat deze synth geen sequencer (wel een arp, maar dat is anders) en geen modulaire clock-in heeft, en omdat ik liever een 3d wave overview heb als ik aan het sound modellen ben. Al met al, er komen nog updates op de firmware en ASM is wat dat betreft erg goed bezig!

The problem about buying a machine like this is that it raises the bar so high that you need to go to Iridium/Kyra territory to be impressed.
It is extremely well thought out in terms of the human interface with 26 access buttons for each major function and 8 knobs to deal with parameters. Amending or starting a patch from new is a total breeze, I find myself able to put very 10 complex patches together in under an hour.
Sounds: Contrary to misconception this can sound very analogue when using the traditional saw and square/pulse waveforms with the FAT24DB Ladder filter. A slight detune and you're away. On top of that you get a further 200 or so waveforms which can be scanned during play for complex and evolving tones.
The effects section is excellent and the 32 slot mod matrix gives you as much as you could need.
It really is an all purpose tool and it does not surprise me why it has received the praise that has been heaped upon it since it's launch late last year.
Build quality is flawless, sound quality is pristine and the light show from all the knobs and buttons coming on is a lovely touch.
It is a superb instrument and great value for money.

At first I was not sure about this product as it truly is a synth where everything is built from the ground up sound wise. I did not know how the bread-and-butter sounds were going to be as I create music and don't have much time for sound design.

Lets say, I'm incredibly glad I considered this synth and it is one of the most versatile and unique products I own -Favorite.

Excellent product for sound designers and it is easy to study the sounds created by the manufacturer. Once selecting a sound, go to the the MOD MATRIX or MACRO buttons and this will allow for dissection of, and provide understanding in building ones own sounds.

Hydrasynth is a great end user product and built better than anything else I own in the high-end synth offerings. It is disappointing how other well established synth manufactures have compromised the integrity of their product using light weight plastic construction materials that wont hold up as good as the Hydrasynth in constant transport.

Extremely powerful and feature rich synth. The number of features is the best in its' price range. The mod matrix is amazing, and so are the macros. The thing I hated about some of the other syths I've used is not being able to see the values of settings when loading a preset, this is not the case with Hydrasynth, everything is shown with the LEDs around the encoders and on the screens. The built in presets are also amazing and are a good show of the available features. The build quality is excellent.
