Beter dan elektrisch

Omdat ik in de praktijk nauwelijks boven de andere bandleden uitkom met mijn vioolspel heb ik een aantal jaren geleden een elektrische viool aangeschaft. Daar red ik het qua volume uiteraard prima mee, maar ik ben nog nooit echt tevreden geweest over de klank, zeker niet als ik die vergelijk met mijn akoestische viool.
Dus ben ik op zoek gegaan naar een mogelijkheid om mijn -letterlijk- oude vertrouwde akoestische viool te versterken. Spelen voor een microfoon geeft tijdens live optredens te weinig bewegingsvrijheid.
De "The Grip"lost dit probleem prima op, maar zorgt er ook nog eens voor dat de klank van de akoestische viool, na enig experimenteren met de positie van het microfoontje, bijzonder natuurgetrouw wordt weergegeven. Voor deze prijs zou ik dit apparaatje, dat zich bijzonder eenvoudig laat bevestigen, aan iedere "bandviolist"aanraden. Bijkomend voordeel: het neemt heel erg weinig ruimte in in je koffer. Zelf versterk ik over een Roland AC 90 die ik ook voor mijn akoestische gitaar gebruik, maar ook over een PA blijft de weergave uitstekend. Ervaring met opnames heb ik nog niet, maar daar wordt aan gewerkt.

Great product, great service

After a decade or so on piezo pickups, I wanted something that amplifies my violin more naturally. I ended up trying the Myers pickup. It sounds great, is small and has a volume-knob. Great product! Also not too sensitive for feedback I found.
Mine however had a little vibration inside. Something resonated with my d-string. I contacted Myers and guess what: Gregg sent me a new one immediately. And this one is just perfect.

An excellent solution to faithful instrument amplification.

No specs are available from Myers, or from any other source that I could find. Which means a leap of faith, when forking out the slightly elevated price.

My application is violin and in this regard, Myers have "dropped the ball". The bottom of the Carpenter Clamp has no Cork on it. What idiot expects you to clamp chrome steel against a violin back (or mandolin).
Also the Cork and Felt pads are not thick enough to allow for the elevation of the violin top. So that when you clamp the PreAmp/Mic module to the top surface of the violin the base is resting on the Violin sound board. But hey, I can elevate it enough with neoprene tubing or rubber feet. That is not the point though; For this price point and the advertised (violin) application, I would expect everything necessary for the average joe, would be included.

In Summary, a good product, with excellent sound capture characteristics. Output is acceptable, but a preamp for Hi-z amp input is recommended. So whilst the Myers family sell the Clamp product as the finished article, they still have some very important work to do with regard to the Carpenter Clamp arrangement for a clean fit to a valuable violin (or Mandolin).

I experimented with many violin pickups untill I bumped into the Myers Pickup. Not only is it small and practical, the sound is crystal clear and very natural. It is very user friendly and the goose neck can be adjusted to your own sweet spot. Violinists go out and get it.....
