Het apparaat zou door middel van equalizing en bandcompressie de body-sound van een acoustische gitaar herstellen dat d.m.v. een pïezo element wordt versterkt.
Ik heb twee electrische PRS gitaren, uitgerust met een Ghost systeem, pïezo elementen dus. Electrische gitaren hebben geen body. Dat hoor je dus ook.
Ik was dus benieuwd wat de BodyRez daar aan kon doen.
Het resultaat is een verbetering. De BodyRez kan niet creëren wat er niet is. Maar de equalizing van het laag creëert wel meer "body". Wat belangrijker is: de karakteristieke "quack" in het middengebied, het directe gevolg van pïezo elementen, is geheel verdwenen.
Als je van dat middengebied houdt, dan is de BodyRez niet voor jou. Maar persoonlijk vind ik het geluid een stuk gebalanceerder en vooral minder goedkoop klinken.
Normaal, als je meer laag in het signaal draait, heeft dat ook tot gevolg dat het signaal "wolliger" of "boomy" wordt. Wat opvalt, is dat het laag heel strak blijft. Ongetwijfeld het gevolg van de bandcompressie.
Uiteraard heb ik de BodyRez ook uitgeprobeerd op mijn twee Seagull acoustische gitaren.
Deze gitaren zijn best goed voor hun prijs, maar zijn alleen met pïezo's uitgerust.
Dus hebben ze ook de karakteristieke, goedkoop klinkende "quack" in het geluid.
Je kunt het proberen te corrigeren met toonregeling, maar dan loop je al snel tegen de beruchte laagfrequente feedback aan.
Om het nog interessanter te maken: mijn collega heeft een hele dure yamaha met drie verschillende ingebouwde toonopnemers. Het geluid van die gitaar is ronduit indrukwekkend. Vooral het volle warme laag valt op.
Iedereen denkt bij acoustisch gitaar altijd meteen aan de briljant hogere harmonischen. Maar voor een echt goede klank, is juist de body van belang.
Daarom klinken mijn PRS'en met hun Ghost systeem niet echt acoustisch.
Enter de BodyRez. Daar is dat ding nou net voor bedoeld.
Ik kan er kort over zijn. De goedkope Seagulls konden de dure Yamaha qua klank met gemak evenaren. Een vol, warm en strak laag. Zonder feedback.
De BodyRez geeft een aanzienlijke verbetering in het geluid van zowel mijn pïezo-electrische, als van mijn acoustische gitaren.

I own a Taylor 214CEK DLX. The inbuilt Piezo pick-up system, ES2, sounds a bit thin. I wanted a simple solution to try and restore/add a little more body & warmth and restore the resonance without breaking the bank. I looked at many options that made similar claims but decided upon this one. I am running it along with the Zoom AC2 Acoustic Pedal into a Yamaha MG12XU mixer and I am getting a lovely warm tone using both pedals in tandem.

Of sturdy metal construction, this pedal is so simple to use. Just plug in the instrument, dial in your preferred tone and off you go! A single foot-switch engages the pedal or activates the bypass. It is True Bypass and also does not convert your signal to digital, so no latency issues with a dry signal. It also has inbuilt Feedback Suppression via phase reversal. This has to be set by unplugging, holding a button and plugging in power. I this mode the pedal is always activated and cannot be bypassed. Due to its compact design, it cannot house a battery and must be powered by the supplied PSU. There is also a USB port to enable firmware updates.

In summary, some may quibble about the price for such a simple uncomplicated pedal. That for me was the main selling point. The truth is most working acoustic players I know have a couple of go to sounds for their set and like it to be as easy as possible to achieve those sounds. I think this pedal delivers. I have not compared it practically with others so cannot give a direct comparison. I am sure there are better & more expensive ones out there but this suits my needs perfectly. I recommend it.

This tiny pedal has only one control and only does one thing, but yet again TC have squeezed a usb port in just above the power input socket (for toneprint?) This was a bit of a gamble for me as it is intended for acoustic guitar, but I want to use it with mandolin or bouzouki. I understand the principle that it thickens up the sound from a bridge under saddle pickup or similar device and makes it more like the true sound with the instrument's body resonance (hence the name). TC Electronic have never yet failed to impress me with their digital processing on just about every device (I have 4 of their pedals at present - 5 now). How can I rate this for "Features"? It only does one thing (as it comes out of the box), but if you can edit a toneprint for it then the possibilities are wide open. The official TC website doesn't yet mention Toneprint for this pedal, so it isn't clear if any will become available for other acoustic instruments. It works quite well with a bouzouki as it is, so I'll give it 3 stars for sound and also 3 stars for features as it comes out of the box.
