Nice upgrade from the basic mics
I am a baritone and always had an SM58 beta, which I really loved because of its clarity (the regular 58 often sounds too muffled for me). I've had a lot of problems with loss of volume in the lower ranges of my voice though, where I had to push a lot more in those ranges, which resulted in voice strain and sometimes even damage (especially when using on stage wedges instead of in-ear monitoring).
I decided to give the M80 a try after a lot of technicians recommended it to me. At first sound they seemed quite similar, but after extensive comparing and longer periods of singing it became clear that the mid and especially low mid range sounds a LOT fuller and more powerful on the M80 - resulting in much more warmth (even crooning sounds nice on this one) and much less need to push my voice into overdrive. The lower range strain problems are as good as gone, resulting in much better and durable voice work (even after hours of rehearsal), and I feel a lot more secure because this mic.
I've been using the M80 for about 10 live shows now, and have had lots more compliments on the warmth of my voice since then, both from fans, technicians and fellow musicians.
All round winner for me. Only wish the gold one wasn't so ridiculously expensive for a simple colour change.

telefunken M80 super mic

Very impressive!
What a great sounding microphone! I use this on male voice (my own). Its is extremely open and clear sounding, basically what you'd expect from a condensor mic (which the m80 is not). Works great in rehearsal and live gigs, but equally impressive in studio use. A big step up from my precious mic (Audio Technica AE6100).
Side-rejection is fairly big, and the microphone is completely unforgiving sound-wise, so no hiding behind a mic. Given its open sound, it does require some singing technique. Maybe not the best fit for a starting vocalist, or one who is used to move a lot around the mic (better go cardioid then). I think proximity effect is quite mild compared to various other microphones i've used in the past. Handfeel is awesome, all metal and sturdy, and its weight is a bit on the heavy side which i personally like.
To get the most out of it, it does require to open the gain a bit further on your mixer/interface/preamp, but then it totally opens up in a wonderful way!
In short: very impressive microphone and highly recommended
