Classic hard rock tones
This Super Distortion I have as bridge pickup paired with an Air Norton in the neck on a guitar with a basswood body.
The first thing I notice about this is the treble response. If you play an open chord the mid and higher frequencies sing out. The overall sound is very clear, tight and not muddy, great for picking notes in chords and solos. I actually role off the tone a little on this since it is quite bright. With distortion there is decent crunch on the bass and it is not flubby. But it really gives bite to the higher frequencies, especially triads and chords on the higher strings are very distinctive. This works really well for classic rock and 80s metal.
If you are looking for modern metal, high output or a thick bass response then this pickup is probably not hot enough. For classic and heavy rock, and 80s metal this is the kind of voicing you need.

Classic Hard Rock/Metal Sound
For Metal, Hard Rock and Punk the Super Distortion is a classic pickup. For my money it has a little more defintion than the JB which is the other super-PAF people go for.

Been using these pick ups since the early 80's and they are on most of my electric guitars. Gives me a deep high out put sound

The Brown sound in a box
I bought a replica of an Eddie Van Halen guitar, dropped this pickup in and connected my 6505 MH and it totally gave me the original VH1 sound.
