Quality pickup - interesting tone

Firstly my pickup has the classic white EMG logo (looks like an S or SA) and doesn't say HZ which will please some as it removes a bit of the 'budget' perception of the passive range.

This is a nice pickup with quite a unique tone which I'm using in neck position - think single coil bite/shimmer with thicker smoother bass and low mids with not much upper mid. Gives that typical 'hi fi' sound EMGs are known for. It is also mega quiet! Much quieter than the conventional humbucker I have in the bridge position.

After an initial trial, I considered changing it for a lace sensor but it's staying in at the moment as it is pleasing whenever I play it. It also fits in tight spaces (mine is in a top mounted carvin where very few singles will fit) but is quite tall so unlikely to be able to mount it very low - eg I couldn't use in middle position as it would interfere with picking too much.

direct replacement for bass pickup, too!

Bought it as a replacement for the stock Roswell VTN-4 pickup in Harley Benton PB-50, not that it need it, but because I wanted to. Even if higher (5 mm) than stock pickup, it fitted without routing. Provided wiring kit replaced the stock pots.

I chose S4 because of humbucker rail construction and the advertised characteristics, favouring low & high ends.

It gave the PB-50 a smooth overall response, noiseless, with bright highs and well defined lows. It tends to distort at max volume.

Sehr guter, brummfreier Single-Coil

Verwende schon länger den EMG S3 in meinen Strats, erzeugt authentischen , alten Stratsound. Dieser EMG S4 ist wärmer im Ton, klingt aber in der Zwischenposition immer noch ausreichend knackig, ist auf akustisch hellen Gitarren sehr zu empfehlen. Aber auch in Mahagony am Hals sehr zu empfehlen wenn man mal jazz-artige Sounds braucht. Sehr warmer, angenehmer Ton, sehr empfehlenswert!
Ich ziehe die HZ-Serie ganz klar den aktiven Pickups vor.

Was für ein geiles Teil!

Ich habe meine erste E-Gitarre mit EMGs aufgewertet und bin begeistert. Es ist eine Hohner Reno, vorne ein Single Coil und hinten ein Humbucker. Ich habe mich für die EMGs entschieden, weil man nichts löten muss. Eine weitere Entscheidung für diese war das sie passiv sind, da ich mir keine Gedanken über Batteriestand in meiner E-Gitarre machen will. Der Einbau funktionierte ohne Probleme und es passte auch alles genau. Das einzige was nicht ganz problemlos funktionierte war bei der Steckplatine. Dort waren Steckplätze anders beschrieben als in der Anleitung, jedoch mit ein wenig Hausverstand und probieren konnte das schnell gelöst werden.
Zum Klang: Es ist unglaublich wie diese passiven Pickups klingen!!! Im Cleankanal ist der Sound Glasklar und wenn man die Zerre aufdreht hauts einen um. Das Ding brettert einen weg. Klanglich finde ich ist mit dem Pickup alles abgedeckt von Clean bis Metal alles spielbar. In Kombination mit dem Humbucker würde ich dieses Pickup auf jeden Fall wieder kaufen.
