10. Changing Strings: Acoustic Guitar
Most of this procedure is exactly the same as for electric guitar (see previous page)- the acoustic guitar uses wooden or plastic pins to anchor the strings to the bridge.

Slacken the old string and remove the bridge pin. Most string winders have a notch for this purpose, but you should usually be able to manage with the fingers alone if you dont have one; if the pin is stuck tight, many players use a coin or similar object to lever the pin out. This should be avoided as it can result in damage to the bridge.

The best technique in this case is to hold a coin underneath the pin (from inside the guitar-) and then push the pin out.

Once the pin is removed, feed the new string through the hole, ball end first.

Replace the pin, making sure that the groove in the pin is arranged so that the string will sit in the groove. (The groove should face the sound hole/neck.) Push the pin downwards and pull the string tight. The ball end is anchored between the inside of the guitar and the pin.
