More like Planet Awesome!

Finally got myself to upgrade the machine heads on my China made SG. It's a great guitar, but the machine heads felt like they weren't holding the tuning too well and had a dead spot where the spin wouldn't do anything.
I did some reasearching, and figured I'd go with the locking tuners and see what all the fuss is about. And yeah, damn, changing the strings is a breeze now! The stability on these bad boys also amazes me - on fresh strings, cycling through a couple really all out pieces, riddled with bendy solos and stuff, I barely have to adjust anything... And I used to hate fresh strings for the first week or two, since the tuning would always fudge up quite a bunch after intense playing. And that's on all guitars I've ever had.
Anyway, it's quite a bit of an investment for something seemingly so simple as machineheads, but it does the job real well.
Of negatives I have only one thing - those logos on the back of the lock adjuster are kind of a dud. But I'll probably paint those over sometime later or smth.

P.S.: I run D'Addario 12-60 set of strings, and the 60 barely fit the hole. So if you have any thicker strings than a 60, you'll need to bring out the tools... Though I would suggest looking for other options in that case - not really that big on spending almost a hundie on machine heads and then having to drill em.

Why this isn't the norm?

I replaced regular, non-locking Grover tuners on my Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe with these. These ain't my first set of locking tuners and I have to admit, I'm really impressed!
First of all, the tuners have 18:1 ratio (as advertised by Planet Waves) which helps you tune up to pitch precisely. The tuners feel very smooth when tuning and are very lightweight - lighter than grovers that were installed on my guitar previously.
The string cutting mechanism, in my opinion, is one the greatest innovations in guitar gear history! It makes string changes so much faster and end results are much better looking that using pliers to cut the excess string off.
The very first time I changed strings with these tuners on, I lost 1st and 2nd string. When tuning up to pitch, both slipped out of tuners and were done. The strings couldn't be restrung, as there was no excess string left to thread through the tuner.
** Here's an important tip! **
Once you have locked your strings in place, start turning the string and after about a full turn, the excess string will be cut off. After that, lock the string in place once again before tuning to pitch! This should save your unwound strings from slipping out.

Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and I would by these again, without a doubt!
