A
Rotosound Swing 66 bass (6 strings set)
Anonim 20.02.2016
I have two 5 string basses, a fretless and a fretted one. On the fretless I mount the fifth string as a low B, like normally it would be, but on the other one I mount a high C. So I bought this 6 string set to have a high C for my fretted bass and a spare low B for the fretless one.
Let's start from the highest and lowest: the high C is definitely beautiful, it has a full tone even on the highest pitches, when you play solos or chords it delivers the highest frequencies with clarity, even response, but without losing deepness.
The low B on the other side, has the same fat sound quality that you will find on the whole set, but in my opinion it lacks in aggressivity. Of course it depends on the style you are playing, but still, I wouldn't use it for heavy low D pedals in a rock song.
So, did I like this set of Rotosound swing bass? Definitely yes. Would I use them for kinds of music different other than jazz or rythm and blues? Not so much.
These strings deliver a full tone, sustained and warm. If you are walking, or playing She Caught the Katy, they work really fine. When it comes to something heavier, like slapping or rock music, they lack in "twang" and aggressivity. At least that's what it felt like on my Yamaha AND on my Sire Marcus Miller.
As for the playability, I found them easy under the fingers both of left and right hand.
Nevertheless, they have a long durability and don't need to be changed often.
Conclusions: very goog quality strings, not very suited for switching between a lot of styles, but for everything that needs a fat warm tone they surely are my cup of tea.
