Super versatile pedal compressor
JeeWee 21.05.2019
I was looking for an upgrade of my 90'ies Ibanez pedal compressor, that I could also use for my acoustic guitar. The old school pedal was a bit brutal and rough on the edges, being an old fashioned design.
The hyper gravity has a couple of big advantages:
- the blend control, allowing you to mix in the uncompressed signal
- the multiband seting, which works really well on acoustics
- toneprint options to tweak to your heart's desire.
I love this thing, it is NOT leaving my pedal board anymore!

Decent but there are much better options
El Guito 31.08.2020
I used the HyperGravity pedal in the context of building a pedalboard for live shows with my rock 5-piece band and some professional studio recording. The pedal is well built and sturdy, I had no problems with the hardware.

The reason I chose this compressor over others was because of the controls it offers, they are very good in the sense that you can really dial in the tone you want. But I didn't love this pedal, I actually disliked it because the tone was not very good. Being a professional music producer, I work with a multitude of different software compressors and I understand compression very well and the sound of this pedal was not pleasing to my ears. Even after a lot of fiddling, I was not able to find a GREAT sound, I found some decent, usable ones but nothing that made me feel like my purchase was justified. It's an okay pedal with great features and an okay sound. Nothing to write home about.

Good

I tried several different compressors before settling on this one. The unit has a blend control which sets the ratio of compressed signal to non-compressed signal allowing one to set up the amount of compression from the unit. Very useful feature. The unit offers a wide variation in output from a simple boost to a full on "squeeze". I was able to find a sretting where the compression works in a very transparent fashion. Highly recommended.

TC Electronic HyperGravity Compressor
Robert814 10.11.2015
The only compressor that I have found worthwhile using for the last 4 years or so is the Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor. This is an exceptionally good hand built analogue device with an opto-isolator inside. It is very expensive! TC Electronic appear to take the digital approach to their pedals (otherwise you couldn't have TonePrint) and I am well impressed with their Flashback X4, particularly the low noise of the digital implementation. The price of the Hypergravity compressor is less than half the analogue device. The digital technology gives the possibility of exceptionally wide (even extreme) control of the sound. With ultra low noise, this should be capable of incredible sustain (like a wall of stacks, but at bedroom level). Not my normal setting, but I'd like to have the option. The option of a personalised TonePrint will take me some time to explore, but the standard range of control is really impressive. The Spectra position gave an unexpected treble cut (particularly compared to the Forest Green with tone set at 12 o'clock). The Vintage position was (to my surprise) much better, but still lost a little top. The default TonePrint sample was excellent to my ears - plenty of clarity and cut with masses of compression or sustain depending on the position of the rotary controls. There is no trace of noise from this pedal (of course it will boost noise from other pedals before it in the signal path). I can only say it's "Studio quality" and depending on if you're prepared to spend some time customising your own TonePrint it is possible to get exactly what you want out of it. This really is 21st century electronics! (Less than £100 as well!).
