Behringer LINE 2 USB

Pros:
Class compliant, wonderful! Plug and play all the things wether it's iOS with a camera connection kit, Android devices with an OTG adapter or desktops wether it be Windows, MacOS or Linux.
Small and portable
Reasonably rugged design
Neutral:
I would have preferred RCA connectors as it's easier to convert from if you have another connector type on your output.
Only software-level gain control
Negative:
Super-loud noise floor (approx -30dB), internal noise filtering implementation is severely lacking.
Almost-deal-breaker-level negative: Not a Line level device! Recording a consumer-grade line-level at 0dB gain will utterly clip the recording. Recording without clipping requires attenuation to approximately 1/10. Since the device has software-only gain, recording on a device Without acces to software gain (iOS or Android devices) requires an external attenuator. This means that the noise floor will be even louder on the recording.

Bottom line: If you have the need for a cheap super-portable soundcard for recording and don't mind a (quite audible) buzzy noise for quieter parts of your recording, this is for you.

Purpose:
Transfer of archive casette recordings of great personal value onto PC using digital interface to retain highest quality.didnt have a soundcard with coax SPDIF inputs and wanted a affordable solution for oneoff transfer activity.

Use In practice
Plugged Qtr inch L and R jacks into output from Behringer UB802 port mixer and usb into PC. Audacity software found input without problems. Recorded quality seems good although only tried it briefly and source isn't exactly highest quality but no noticeable distortion on loud sustained passages.

Drivers:
For windows 7 64 bit pro
Plug and play with Windows drivers worked fine. no Third party drivers required.

Pros
Ease of setup. up and working within 5 mins of unpacking
Quaity of manufacture is high with 2 metres of quality cable and usb plug has bright blue led imbedded to confirm active.

Sound Quality seems very good with no obvious extrenious noise or interference.

Cons
Selecting the line2usb input in Audio software preferences resulted in initial mono channel "Mic" input only. Selected other option titled "Windows Direct Sound" as input source and Stero line input achieved.

Summary
Highly recommended particularly as it works with line level output from small domestic mixers rather than just output form instruments.

I have two issues with this LINE2USB.
1. It appears that only the left channel is active, e.g. Audacity or other such programs records only this channel, although seemingly Audacity records it as 'stereo', with both channels recording the left channel.

2. The Input sensitivity is very high. I connected the LINE2USB to my mixer main out, with normal line levels, but I have to set the level of the LINE2USB in windows to 5..max 10, on a scale of 100.

To me it appears more like a (mono) MIC2USB, but I needed a LINE2USB..

Das Behringer "Line 2 USB" ist ein günstiges und sehr kleines Stereo USB Audiointerface. Die Daten kommen sicherlich nicht mit höherwertigen Audiointerfaces mit und die Benutzung ist ein wenig "ungewöhnlich".

Unterstützt werden 2 Kanäle mit 16 bit Auflösung und Sample Rates von 8000, 11025, 16000, 22050, 32000, 44100 und 48000 Hz.

Ich verwende es um den Ausgang eines Analogmischpults (Yamaha MG12/4FX) in OBS für Livestreams zu nutzen.

Verbaut sein dürfte ein Cmedia CM6317A ( in dem zugehörigen Datenblatt angegebenen Werte für Dynamic Range (96dB) und THD+N (~89~96dB) stimmen auch ungefähr mit meinen Messungen mit REW überein. Der Frequenzgang ist sehr flach und das Rauschen ist stärker als z.B. bei einem Focusrite Scarlett oder einem Behringer UMC20x. Für viele Einsatzzwecken (z.B. Livestreams) dürfte das aber kaum ins Gewicht fallen.

Ein paar Dinge sind am Behringer "Line 2 USB" ungewöhnlich, wenn man diese Punkte kennt und damit umgehen kann ist das "Line 2 USB" ein sehr gut nutzbares Audiointerface. Leider ist die Behringer Beschreibung für das "Line 2 USB" vollkommen nutzlos. Nachfolgend am Beispiel Windows 10 (englische Oberfläche) beschrieben:

Das "Line 2 USB" wird als "Microphone" angezeigt und erscheint sehr empfindlich (z.B. starke Übersteuerung bei Anschluss an ein Mischpult).

Wenn man in den Windows 10 "Settings" in die "Sound Settings" geht findet man unter "Input" ein Gerät "Microphone (USB PnP Audio Device)". Nach Auswahl von "Device Properties" kann man den Text "Microphone" z.B. durch "Line 2 USB" ersetzen.

Mit "Volume" kann man die Verstärkung einstellen. Meinen Messungen nach gibt es folgende Korrelation zwischen Volume und dem maximalen Eingangspegel (0dBFS): 0 = 26dBu, 8 = 22dBu, 20 = 16dBu, 34 = 11dBu, 50 = 4dBu, 67 = -4dBu, 100 = -35dBu. Wenn man das "Line 2 USB" an ein normales Mischpult anschließen will (Standardausgang 4dBu, max. 16-22dBu) sollte man das Volume im Bereich 8 bis maximal 20 einstellen.

Je nach Anwendung wird nur ein Kanal angezeigt, dieses läßt sich aber einfach ändern: In den "Device properties" (siehe oben) auf "Additional device properties" klicken, im folgenden Fenster kann man im Reiter "Advanced" das "Default Format" auswählen, also z.B. "2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)".

Im Reiter "Levels" wird noch einmal das "Volume" angezeigt, mit der rechten Maustaste kann man zwischen "Percentage" und "Decibels" umschalten. Achtung: Eigentlich muss man die angezeigten dB mit 2 multiplizieren (siehe Datenblatt CM6317A).
