Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man TapTempo 550

I have been playing with with digital emulation delays and always tried to emulate the sound of an analog delay (the memory man) or maybe tape delay so I finally chose to go for the real deal. I am so happy and I feel for the first time that my sound is "authentic" and organic. After a while I discovered that there were many cool effects you can achieve with the expression pedal, it also combines soooo nicely with a fuzz or organ emulator pedal (I got the Boss Overtone). It doens't stop there, I now realized that you can use it as a boost pedal, the sound is soooooo much more alive when I kick it in, I have the pedal constantly on now and increase either the feedback or blend for a cloud of heaven on top of my playing when needed. You think you're done?? Think again, I will now experiment the the send and return loop! Overall, I think it's a great pedal if you are into that sound! I don't like the sound of 90% of guitarists so I cannot expect everyone to like this pedal either. I also use it after my Line 6 M5 which I use for pure digital repeats and it makes everything sound awesome :D

It arrived safe and sound after a wait shorter than expected.
So far using it at home and having lots of fun. It's really sturdy as usual when it comes to Electro Harmonix. Using an expression pedal with it is amazing, and each of the parameters can be controlled by it individually. A tap switch is also supported but I haven't tried it and don't think I need it. I've started experimenting with the effect loop and it seems there are many possibilities for manipulating the wet signal without altering the dry one. A reverb in the effects loop helps building dreamy landscapes. The only thing I would like to be able to control would be the attack of each of the repeats, so as to avoid hearing the pluck of the guitar string repeatedly. I guess that's probably the same with all these analog delay pedals. I have an old version of the Earthquaker Disaster Transport, which is also lovely, but lacks the more sophisticated control of the Deluxe Memory Man TT550. The looks is super cool, a modernised design of the traditional Memory Man, with more knobs, more control, and in green, my favourite colour!

Der Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man TapTempo 550 ist ein sehr vielseitiges und super warm klingendes Analog Delay. Kein Wunder, ist es doch ein Nachbau des klassischen und sehr begehrten Deluxe Memory Man aus den 70ern und 80ern der den Klang von The Edge, Robert Smith oder Ed O'Brien wesentlich formte. Die Zahl 550 steht hierbei für die maximale Delayzeit, die per Poti einstellbar ist. Innerhalb dieses Spielraumes klingt das Delay in super Qualität. Allerdings lässt sich die Zeit auch per TapTempo auf knapp eine Sekunde ausdehen. Hier muss man allerdings klar mit klanglichen Verlusten rechnen, denn der Sound wird dann ziemlich lo-fi. Im direkten Vergleich zum Deluxe Memory Boy fällt sofort der strahlendere, hellere und wesentlich organischere Klang des Deluxe Man auf. Super! Die Modulation spricht für sich und klingt in meinen Ohren feiner als beim Deluxe Boy.
Auch die Selbstoszillation klingt knackiger als beim Deluxe Boy. Top auch die Möglichkeit Effekte per Loop einschleifen zu können. Die Subdivisionen und das mögliche Anschließen eines Expressionpedals sind ebenfalls sehr gute Features. Unter den analogen Delays ist der Deluxe Memory Man 550 sicher eines der am besten klingenden Pedale. Einziger Wermutstropfen und für mich Grund ihn nicht zu behalten ist die kurze (aber für die meisten Songs im Pop und Rock ausreichende) Delayzeit. Das heißt: wer eine etwas längere Delayzeit nutzt, der ist beim Deluxe Memory Man 1100tt absolut richtig! Ansonsten aber absolut klare Kaufempfehlung!
