MXR M303 Clone Looper

I wanted an upgrade from my trusty old Ditto, still maintaining a small footprint on my pedalboard. The sound quality is a step up, and the best I've heard in a looper. Having separate buttons for record and play is very handy, and the access to them is easier because of the button placement so close to the edge of the pedal. That makes for a more precise and comfortable angle when using your foot.

What I dislike is the secondary functions on the volume knob, it needs to be operated by hand. Therefore, MXR get points off for handling and quality (it feels like it might break). I guess I can solve this by getting a separate tap button, but the pedal is already double the price of the Ditto looper.

All in all, I do recommend this product. For me, sound quality and separate buttons is essential.

First off, I did a big search through all the available loopers, having owned several in the past. I do a lot of live looping accompanying jazz singers where I need long loop times, great sound quality and easy operation. No effects or overdubs, I either don't need it or have other pedals available. So my one complaint is the silent erase. After a song finishes and the loop is off, there is no easy way to silently erase the loop. What you have to do is hold down the relatively flimsy volume button for multiple seconds until the left button starts blinking, which you then have to press. That is a lot of time and effort! This can be ameliorated somewhat by buying an extra fx switch but you will still have to hold it I think. Anyway, great looper, almost perfect for me.

Der MXR Clone Looper ist ein sehr angenehm zu nutzender Looper. Alle Funktionen erschließen sich von selbst und sind nutzbar, ohne irgendwelche Menus oder gar PC-Anbindungen zu gebrauchen. Das hebt ihn aus der Masse der am Markt befindlichen Looper deutlich hervor
Sehr gut gelöst ist die Art der Bedienung – ohne überlegen zu müssen kann man spontan entsprechende Funktionen auslösen: Oktavesprünge nach oben und unten, rückwärts abspielen und beides in Kombination. Schön auch, dass man während des Aufnahmevorgangs die Oktavfunktion nutzen kann, was zu
teils skurrilen, teils rhythmisch komplexen Loops führt. Aus dem Stopzustand heraus kann man durch Drücken des Rec / Overdubtasters direkt in Overdubs starten. Undo / Redo ist natürlich auch möglich. Sehr gut auch, dass durch Anschluss einen Vol - oder EXP -Pedals Loops ein-und ausgeblendet werden können.
Der Looper reagiert sehr gut und sehr schnell – man muss das Spiel nicht darauf abstimmen, bzw. man muss nicht etwas später oder früher die entsprechende Taste drücken, damit das Timing stimmt.
Ich nutze den Clone Looper zusammen mit dem MXR Taptaster und einem alten Boss FV-50 über TRS Kabel – beides funktioniert perfekt.
Schade, dass man nicht daran dachte, eine Regelung des Feedback
einzubauen, um den Overdublevel zu regeln.
Die Soundqualität ist großartig – es gibt keine Veränderung des Originalsignals, es gibt kein Rauschen oder sonstige Störgeräusche und auch bei Overdubs bleibt alles klar erkennbar.
Bedenken sollte man, dass der CloneLooper mono ist, ( aber das waren JamMan und EDP auch ) und dass man keine Loops abspeichern kann ( der zuletzt eingespielte Loop bleibt allerderdings nach dem Ausschalten erhalten ) und in Sequenz ( Verse – Bridge – Refrain ……. oder ähnliches ) abrufen kann.
Alles in allem eine absolute Empfehlung für diejenigen, die einen kreativ und einfach nutzbaren Looper suchen
