P
good ubass strings
Pacharan 14.04.2018
I have a hollow body Countryman ubass and a solid body Mahalo ubass. Both instruments were stringed with Aquila Thunderguts. Nothing wrong with those strings at all, except the A string on the Mahalo was getting snagged in the nut. Now I could have filed the nut, but since I needed new strings anyway I thought I would try the Thunder Reds as they are a smaller diameter than the Thunderguts. My impression is that the Reds are a little more precise in intonation and vibrate less. The white Thunderguts sound more like an upright. I like that my ubasses now sound a bit different.

B
Not exactly long lasting
Barbablanca 02.05.2019
I loved the sound of these red babies when I first put them on my bass ukulele. They were a marked improvement over the plain whites it came with. However, circumstances meant I didn't get to play the bass much over the last year since I bought them.

This week I picked up the instrument for the first time in ages and stated to play. The next day I noticed that the A string was beginning to fray badly and two days later it has snapped completely beyond repair when I was not even playing it. This fraying appeared between frets, so I can't blame the fret for cutting into the string.

Given that I have probably played the instrument less than 20 hours, all told, since I restrung it (although admittedly it was strung a year ago) I still feel that it should have had a longer shelf life. Had I been playing several hours a day I might have expected this result, but not having the instrument basically idle for most of the year.

This is always a more personal opinion. They sound better than standard white strings, with a little more harmonics (richer sound).
It is not miraculous.

A
a definit upgrade from the standard strings
Anonim 11.10.2016
I already have the Aquila red on my tenor ukulele and they are the best in my opinion which led me to try these ones. the standard "Pahoehoe" were on the bass for quite some time now and started to sound noisy and had a lot of buzz while playing. the minute I put the Aquila reds the sound totally changed i will describe it as less floppy w very good definition of highs and lows specially on A D G strings , no fret buzz whatsoever, and the strings tension are just right , they feel a lot different from the rubber strings as well.the only con I would have is that its a little bit rough when doing slides , manageable though.
