If you write serious scores then this is one of your possible choices

I've been using Sibelius since version 6 (which is a long time ago) so I'm used to it. It's very powerful and produces great looking scores.

For the last couple of years I'd been using the reduced-feature set of the Artist edition; but a couple of missing features became ever more vital. So I bought the Ultimate version. It was wonderful to get back features I'd been missing since version 7.

You've got a choice of about 3 scoring programs: Sibelius, Dorico or Finale. Dorico is a newcomer and I don't know it; however, it was written with the help of some ex-Sibelius programmers. Of the arrangers I've spoken to, a slight majority prefer Sibelius.

So why not full marks. although it's very powerful and feature rich, it's also old and it's user interface is quirky to say the least. But if you're willing to get to know it, it's what I'd recommend.

Sibelius First hätte auch gereicht...

Seit Jahren nutze ich Sibelius First, um Übungsplaybacks für meinen Chor zu erstellen. Das heißt, eigentlich brauche ich Sibelius primär um Midi-Files zu erstellen, die ich dann mit Logic als Gesangsspuren aufbereite. Da das Abtippen der Noten immer viel Zeit beansprucht, hatte ich den verwegenen Plan auf Sibelius Ultimate upzugraden, weil dort PhotoScore integriert ist, so dass man Noten einfach einscannen und sich diesen zeitraubenden Arbeitsprozess schenken kann. Soweit der Plan...
Leider musste ich jetzt feststellen, dass die im Kaufpreis inbegriffene Version von PhotoScore nur die „lite“ Version ist. Das heißt, sie erkennt keinen Text, keine Akkordsymbole, keine Wiederholungen, Codas, doppelte Taktstriche, oder Triolen....

Bevor ich mich zum Kaufen entschlossen habe, habe ich mich – im übrigen mit einer super Beratung von Thomann – durch diverse Testversionen anderer Notationsprogramme gearbeitet und stelle fest, dass Sibelius für mich definitiv das beste Notationsprogramm ist und bleibt. Dadurch, dass man die eingescannten Noten allerdings aufwendig nachbearbeiten muss, ist es vom Zeitaufwand fast identisch und ich hätte bei Sibelius First bleiben können.

Ich bin erst Anfänger mit diesem Programm, aber die Möglichkeiten, die es bietet beim Notenschreiben, finde ich sehr gut.
Es wurde mir von meinem Saxophon-Lehrer empfohlen als professionelles Notationsprogramm.
Es lassen sich damit ganze Orchester-Partituren erstellen, wobei auch Einträge in Einzelstimmen in der Gesamtpartitur mit übernommen werden.
Sehr hilfreich finde ich, daß die Töne beim Notenschreiben erklingen und das Geschriebene auch mit notierbaren Wiederholungen abspielbar ist.
Sehr schön finde ich die unterschiedlichen angebbaren Instrumente, die, wie ich finde, recht naturgetreu wiedergegeben werden.
Hervorheben möchte ich noch die Möglichkeit des Transponierens.
