Thoughts from a newbie

After annoying my wife by tapping on any horizontal surface around the house I decided to buy the YAMAHA FGDP-30. I am not a drummer by any stretch of the imagination so this review is written from that perspective.
I like the size, shape, weight and the complete portability of the unit. The sound from the built-in speaker I found to be acceptable but through my headphones stunning! I have yet to play with the abundance of kits and sounds being somewhat over awed by the sheer number of choices.
Initially I don't find the online manual to be all that intuitive but I expect that to change as I get more into the instrument,
In conclusion I do not regret for one second buying the FGDP-30 and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Finally, my wife has started to speak to me again !

Affordable and solid

Long-term workstation keyboard victim 11.02.2024

I don't have space for a drumkit, so I've had to resort to various pad controllers and such to lay down drums over the years as it is much easier to get some natural swing in. This particular unit makes that even easier as the layout is much more comfortable than a grid.
No issues with the build quality at all, solid Yamaha-stuff. Speaker is about as "meh" as you would expect, but definitely suitable for practicing.

Yamaha FGDP-30

It is very fun to use and drumming feels more natural than with a regular MIDI keyboard. I like the preloaded samples and it has plenty of kits to choose from. I enjoy the electronic kits more than initially anticipated, but I'm primarily playing (with) the acoustic ones. I haven't really found the need to dabble with the settings yet, but I've checked them out. The built-in metronome is a nice addition. USB audio works out of the box, so does the MIDI interface. The battery life is good. I'm happy with the purchase and don't regret not buying the FGDP-50 model - I probably wouldn't touch most of its additional features anyway. I guess that I'd prefer a screen instead of the partially voice-driven UI but I don't personally mind it.

Darauf hat die Welt gewartet! Sensationelll oder verbesserungswürdig?

Dieses Gerät ist sensationell, es klingt gut, spielt sich sehr angenehm, aber was das ist nicht alles.
Durch den eingebauten Akku und den tollen Lautsprecher fühlt sich das Gerät beinahe analog an, eben echt wie ein Musikinstrument. Sogar kleine Jamms mit klavier und Bass sind ohne weitere Verstärkung möglich.
Auch finde ich es krass, wie gut die Sounds sind. Wenn ich da teilweise zu bekannten Aufnahme Satzspiegel, kann ich den Unterschied zwischen der Originaltrommel und dem Yamaha kaum erkennen… Dieses Gerät ist verändert für mich echt alles!

Und irgendwie wird dieses Analogcharme auch dadurch geschaffen, dass es kein Display gibt, statt sich durch menus zu clicken, bleibt man bei seinen 2 Lieblingssounds und holt da wirklich alles raus, wie bei einem echten Instrument, und trotzdem.
Irgendwas einstellen oder auch nur von das kit zu wechseln ist ein absoluter Horror und durch das Sprachmenü ist das Ding leider auch auf keiner Bühne nutzbar, es sei denn man spielt nur ein Kit oder schaltet zwischendurch für die Auswahl auf in ear um…
Fazit: besser gleich den großen Bruder das FGDP-50 holen, leider gab es das hier bei Thomann noch nicht.
