Squier Sonic Bronco Tahitian Coral

Obwohl ich immer etwas skeptisch bezüglich der Bronco-Bässe war: die neue Sonic-Serie ist interessant und es sollte ein Shortscale her, also...

Fangen wir vorne an: an den Tunern kann ich nichts aussetzen, sie tun ihren Job gut; der (Plastik-)Sattel kann noch etwas Nacharbeit vertragen, ist aber soweit okay. Der Hals ist vom Handling und der Verarbeitung her sehr gut, relativ schmal natürlich, aber vom Profil (rundlich) für mich sehr angenehm. Die Bünde sind erstaunlich gut, gratfrei und einigermaßen poliert, bei genauem Hinsehen fällt aber auf, dass der 8. und 9. Bund an der E-Saite etwas hochstehen. Trotzdem ist die Saitenlage zwar etwas höher, aber anständig, nichts schnarrt.
Der Übergang zum Korpus ist sehr gut, der Korpus selbst perfekt lackiert (in dieser unbeschreiblichen Farbe, die sich sehr wohltuend vom schwarzen Einerlei dieser Preisklasse abhebt). In der Elektronik-Ausfräsung ist kein Abschirmlack, aber nennenswerte Geräusche gibt es erfreulicherweise nicht. Die Elektronik selbst ist natürlich simpel, die Potis laufen gut, regeln aber etwas abrupt. Hier könnte sich ein Upgrade lohnen. In der Ausfräsung ist ein Holz- oder Routerfehler, aber nichts, was irgendetwas irgendwie negativ beeinflusst.
Der Pickup überrascht. Bekanntermaßen ein Strat-Singlecoil liefert er trotzdem ordentlichen Bass, mit einer eigenen, leicht näselnden Charakteristik und ziemlichen Druck. Zusammen mit dem kurzen Mensur eben ein sehr eigener und brauchbarer Sound.

Wieder etwas Bemerkenswertes von Squier mit sehr gutem Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis; wenn die Sonic-Serie insgesamt so brauchbar ist ("für den Preis"), lohnt sich das schon mal.

Der Bass, als nochmals vereinfachte Version des ohnehin einfachen Mustangs, ist unterm Strich sehr gut spielbar, leicht, handlich mit einem eigenen Sound. Na also.

I had the previous version with a two saddle bridge which led to problems with intonation. I sold it soon after I bought it but kinda missed a short scale bass. When I saw that Squier revised the Bronco with a regular bridge, I immediately bought it.

The bass is pretty great. The build quality is in my opinion superb, I've got other Fenders on hand (90s Japanese ones, 2000s Korean, 2010s Mexican, 2020s Mexican) and in all honesty the Bronco is on par with what I'd expect on instruments 2-3x the price. Sure, the fret ends are a little bit sharp, the nut is cut too high and you have to shim the neck to get a comfortable string height without slicing your hand open on saddle screws but I haven't had any other modern Fender that didn't need doing exactly those things straight out of the box.

The pickup is a regular, cheaper strat style pickup but has surprisingly decent bass and isn't noisy, partly maybe because of the (kinda sloppily applied but I honestly didn't expect any) shielding paint. I swapped the stock single coil with a cheap hotrails style pickup from a certain, chinese shopping site, it has more bass and mids but honestly I wouldn't say either is better, I just prefer the humbucker with flatwound strings for more of a vintage thump.

The only slightly annoying bit are the tuners. They don't hold the tuning particularly great but oh well, it's one of the cheapest basses on the market, there's gotta be something annoying with it ;P

All in all I really enjoy this bass, of course each and every Bronco may vary in build quality but when you come by a well made one it's a great bass and an excellent, cheap modding platform.

I was really surpriced to find this little bass soo good. Everything works fine. The tuners are of exeptional quallity. They are really smooth and holds tuning just fine. I have had my eyes on the Bronco for a while for an upgrade project but i hold back because of the old bridge (hard to intonate) and the cheap tuners. But the new Sonic model got me interrested because of the upgraded tuners and bridge. The bridge has now 4 individual sadles for easier intonation and adjustment, and the new tuners are, as mentioned earlier, really good.
Fretwork was fine and everything else was fine. The volume and tone controls works fine and its nice that they are made of sturdy aluminium.
The sound is articulate and (surprice again!) has a deep lover midrange considering it only has a (guitar?) pickup (looks like a strat pickup).
It is a one trick pony though. If you need more tonal options you should go for a bass with another pickup option.
The pickup i might consider changing along the way but the standard is not bad at all. And i think the pickguard will be changed for a black one which i think would look cool. I only play short scale basses and i think this Bronco will compliment my Fender Mustang and my Sire Marcus Miller U5 just fine
