A decent subwoofer for most circumstances
After using the subwoofer a few times, I'm pretty confident that I've managed to get a basic understanding of its capabilities, features and sound. I think I really like the way this subwoofer sounds.
So first let's get the obvious things out of the way - the sub is not exactly light, so if you need to transport it a lot from one place to another, you need wheels on it. And if you can't roll it from one place to another, you definitely need a friend to carry it with you. It's quite heavy, but that's just a logistical problem.
The features on this subwoofer are decent - the volume and HPF controls are a bit tricky to adjust only with your fingers, but with a guitar pick you'll be able to make adjustments fairly easily. It's good thinking though - any knobs that stand out from the sub's frame itself would be broken in a few moments anyway. It has all the basic connectors one would expect from a sub, so no surprises in there. There's pole adapters on two sides, so that will add flexibility in your system.
And most importantly, let me tell you about the sound. I run my two the box pro subs through a loudspeaker management system with two JBL PRX tops, and the sound is phenomenal. While others might have different views on overall FOH sound levels, I'd say this system is good enough for hundreds of people, even up to a thousand listeners. The way the sound fills the big grass field is insane. The JBL's have always in my mind been okayish speakers, but these subs let the JBL's do more of the stuff they're really good at, so this purchase has just made our venue quite a lot nicer.
All in all - if you need low end power, I'd recommend you to try these subs. A loudspeaker management system is recommended though, as I couldn't get as good results with the sub's own HPF. Let's hope, that these subs will be as durable as they sound. Thank you Thomann for this fantastic product!
