A quality bamboo flute
The shakuhachi in the name is somewhat of a misnomer, as this is a southern-chinese style xiao flute. The mouthpiece does not allow for the same kind of note bending as a shakuhachi mouthpiece would. My flute also featured traditional chinese poetry on the headpiece, as is the custom for xiao flutes.
However, the flute is relatively well-crafted, and has a pleasant, breathy sound. It isn't shrill, and the mids are very pleasant to the ear. The tuning seems a little flat compared to standard pitch, but this can still be attributed to my embauchure being work in progress. The two-piece manufacturing makes the flute to be able to be fine-tuned down, maybe a little under a half-tone.
I noticed the inside of the mouthpiece had some dark spots, but instead of mold I think they are just impurities of the bamboo. Overall, the flute is very pleasant, and the bamboo feels good and sturdy.
