Harley Benton Tenor Guitar

I am still in doubt if the instrument is meant to be a tenor or a travel guitar.

A tenor guitar has the first four strings of a 'normal' guitar, tuned in (high to low pitch) E-B-G-C. Musically it is used as a rhythm guitar playing 4 notes harmony chords. Barre grips are much more easier then on a full 6 string guitar. Changing chords can be done in a higher speed, so rising and descednding chords progressions are within reach without over streching, cramps and muting with the thumb,

The Harley Benton is, compared with other manufacturers very nice prized. The neck is 2/3 wide of a normal neck, so the strings are in the same distance from each other. The tuners are rather simple and cheap, allthough the instrument stays very well in tune. The finishing is okay. The sound is much better than expected.

The size is very small compared with a 6 string guitar. therefor It;s not an instrument for the front man of the band ;-) The audiance will think it is a oversized ukelele.

The instrument has a learning curve, even if one plays guitar already. The best start is to play the songs one knows.

When it doesn't work? Tuning the C to D and you still have a traveller :-)

Klink goed. En voor de prijs een prima geluid. Ik gebruik hem met DGAE tuning.

Voor deze prijs is dit een hele leuke toevoeging voor de collectie van elke muzikant. Voor mandoline spelers is het een goede tip om de john pearse 450L irish tenor guitar strings erbij te kopen, dan stem je hem makkelijk in gdae.

I bought this little guitar not expecting too much.
However,i was pleasantly surprised.

Sound:The guitar has a really big sound for its size.Two highest strings are ringing really bright,but what really impressed me is how clear and strong the bass is.It's very important however to choose the right strings.For example the default Daddario strings give a vibrant,brighter sound while strings like Elixir Polywebs will make your guitar sound darker and quieter.Only complain,the neck is somewhat loud.For example,slides can be a little more noisy than expected.

Comfort of playing:What is missing here is a second strap button on the top of the guitar.I don't mind since i always sit while i play,but other people might find it a con.The neck feels comfortable and the spacing between strings above the sound hole makes fingerpicking a delight.

Build:The guitar seems reasonably well built.Neck and body seem very solid.Tuners are above average but you MIGHT need to tighten them with a screw for time to time.What i'd maybe like to see are better and stronger pegs.

Overall:For that price you simply can't go wrong.That sound you get,is the sound of a guitar that costs 3 or 4 times the price of this one.
