Geweldig klein versterkertje met verrassend vol geluid voor het formaat.

Ik heb hem vooral gekocht om thuis te nemen via GaragaBand en ook te spelen/oefenen. Of het geluid via de speaker erg goed was, was voor mij eigenlijk van minder groot belang, ik wilde gewoon makkelijk goed kunnen opnemen.

Na wat video's en reviews van de grote broertjes (Spark en Spark MINI) te hebben gezien was ik enthousiast over de de opname-mogelijkheden en verschillende (goed klinkende) versterkers en effecten via de app. Alleen ik had niet echt een extra 'grote' versterker nodig die ook live gebruikt kan worden. Ik heb een tijdje getwijfeld over de Spark MINI, maar toen deze Spark Go uit kwam met de zelfde app en software opties was voor mij de keuze snel gemaakt.

De versterker voelt erg stevig en ziet er goed uit. Ik was enorm verrast hoe goed en vol het geluid klonk uit de versterker zelf, zeker gezien het formaat. Clean en ook met veel gain klinkt hij goed. De klacht dat de clean te zacht gaat heb ik niet echt. Je kan in de app de output van de amp ook nog aanpassen wat dit prima compenseert. Al gaan de high gain opties inderdaad wel een stuk luider.

Opnemen op een Mac met GarageBand gaat praktisch vanzelf. Zodra je hem via USB aansluit wordt hij automatisch herkent als input-device. Ik heb er alleen nog maar wat mee getest, maar het klinkt veel beter dan de andere manieren van opnemen die ik in GarageBand heb gebruikt (soft-amps van garageband zelf en mijn buizenamps via de record-out of een Hughes & Kettner Redbox).

Dat hij ook als bluetoothspeaker te gebruiken is, is een leuk extraatje. En ook dan klinkt hij erg goed, zeker in verhouding met het formaat.

De hoeveelheid beschikbare standaard presets en die vanuit online (ToneCloud) zorgt dat je meteen een goed startpunt hebt om daarna je eigen sound te fine-tunen.

Het enige 'minpuntje' wat ik had, is dat het niet meteen duidelijk was hoe je van versterker of effect-pedal wisselt in de app om zo je eigen preset te maken (dubbel tappen op het effect of de versterker).

Ik ben erg tevreden met mijn aankoop.

Perhaps useful for gain lovers, but no use to clean players

I bought this for use as a small smartphone-controlled amp modeler / eq / reverb box. I play clean jazz exclusively, and I like to bring the smallest possible amp to gigs. I like the Mackie SRM150 a lot but it has no built-in reverb and sounds very hi-fi by itself.
Features on the Spark Go are all I need. In fact, I didn’t even need the built-in speaker but I figured it would be a nice bonus.
Modeling sounds and effects are all OK. The big issue, that made it unusable for my purpose, is the low output level from the headphone / line out jack. I didn’t get any decent signal level out of the preamp, no matter what guitar I used or what amp/ headphone / powered speaker I connected it to. Note that I only care about clean tones. Distorted tones seem to have a much higher signal level. Also, again for clean tones, the output volume from the speaker is a joke. It sounds like the tinny pocket radio I used to have as a kid in the 1970’s, both in terms of volume and sound quality. So, for clean tone seekers, it is a toy - at best. I returned it and got a Mooer Prime P2 instead (unfortunately not yet available from Thomann on a reasonable term) and this is just perfect for my needs. It has the added benefit of a 1/4 inch output jack over the vulnerable 1/8 inch mini jack from the Spark.
Some years ago, I bought the Bias Head amp, also by Positive Grid, and ended up selling it again for similar reasons. Clean tones came at a hiss level that made it useless. I guess Positive Grid are aiming for the rock or metal player, at least not the clean player. Too bad for me, will not buy PG stuff again.

Amazing little amp. Great for a practice in a small room.

Good quality material, feels sturdy. Very versatile because of its small size, fits into most of guitar cases. battery powered. Connects to a phone/computer with bluetooth. Lots of tones. Very easy and intuitive to use. Ability to plug in the headphones, and to store presets.
Of course, it will not sound like a big, expensive amp. But for a practice in a small room, outdoors its a great choice. Just what i needed. A small companion. I tend to practice at home at the speaking volume anyway, and for that this amp does exactly that. The amp probably is designed for more distorted sounds, but I play mostly clean guitar and its really good. Just have to spend some time dialing in the tone that you want, and there are endless possibilities regarding that.
I use it at mid-to-low volume, meaning - never put it at 100% volume. And its just for practice ant speaking volume. If you need the sound to fill the room, probably look for another alternative, or get a bigger one. This tiny amp is not meant to be tortured.
