Very comfortable and fun to play. Sounds fantastic after changing the strings.

This is the second bass that I've owned. After starting on the Harley Benton JB-75, I wanted something lighter and more comfortable. The Mustang ticks those boxes. It's a lot of fun to play and easy to reach across the fretboard. If you're a one-finger-per-fret player, this really makes a difference.

It's also a lovely looking instrument with no cosmetic issues to mention.

In my earlier review I mentioned some issues with intonation and tone - specifically above the 5th fret there would be weird metallic overtones and just didn't sound good. It turns out to have been a strings issue. I've been on a bit of a journey to find good strings and can wholeheartedly recommend La Bella 760FS-S for flats or Daddario EXL170S rounds. The latter sound particularly fine after a few months of playing.

So, I highly recommend the Mustang - just factor in a set of strings and replace the horrible factory strings immediately!

Un beau caprice

Oui, clairement, il s'agissait d'un caprice. Je dispose d'un nombre de basses largement suffisant pour couvrir tous les styles que j'aime jouer, mais celle-ci me faisait de l’œil depuis un bon moment, et il me fallait un remontant pour supporter ce nouveau confinement. Alors j'ai craqué! Et je ne regrette pas. je suis bluffé par cette petite basse. Le fait que ce soit une short scale la rend d'une facilité de jeu déconcertante. Le split coil type PB et le single coil type JB offrent un large choix de sons. Je trouve que le JB seul manque de puissance, et à l'inverse, quand je mets le PB seul, je ne retrouve pas la puissance de ma Precision. Mais c'est normal et je m'y attendais. Quand les deux micros sont activés, on a un parfait équilibre de puissance et définition.
La finition est impeccable. Peut-être que je l'emmènerai chez le luthier, mais ça n'est pas indispensable car elle est arrivée très bien réglée.
Je ne regrette donc pas ce caprice!

Das ist trotz des etwas schmächtigen Aussehens (Korpusform) kein Spielzeugbass; hast du ihn umgeschnallt, fühlt er sich erwachsen und gediegen an. Die Verarbeitung ist spitzenmäßig, könnte bei einem US-Bass auch nicht besser sein. Werkzeug liegt bei (Achtung, im Karton versteckt). Bei mir keine schief sitzenden Pickups. Die Karamell-Natur-Farbe finde ich schön!
Und jetzt zum wesentlichen Entscheidungskriterium: Shortscale-Bässe sind für Leute mit etwas kleinen Händen oder kürzeren Fingern; letzteres trifft für mich zu. Als Gitarrist fühle ich mich so auch sofort wohl. Ich wollte den typischen Fender-Sound, da ich sonst immer Gibson-Instrumente spiele, und hier wird dir ja nicht nur Precision, sondern auch Jazz Bass geboten. Finde die Pickups nicht schlecht, liefern den Fender-Sound - knackige Höhen; könnte mir jedoch vorstellen, dass ein Replacement noch Verbesserung bringt - deshalb der eine kleine Punkt Abzug. Der J-Pickup ist deutlich leiser als der P-Pickup am Hals. Scheint auch meistens so zu sein. Die Kombi klingt aber super!
Für mich ist es ein sehr hochwertiges Einsteiger-Instrument zum kleinen Preis, oder in meinem Fall (das ist mein vierter Bass) ein Ding für Shortscale-Profis aufgrund der Hände. Klangeinbußen konnte ich deswegen nicht bemerken, obwohl sicherlich kleine Unterschiede zum Longscale-Original-Precision bzw. Jazz Bass bestehen. Bin sehr zufrieden!

Toller Bass mit kleinen Schwächen

Habe mir wegen der besseren Bespielbarkeit zusätzlich den Mustang gegönnt (habe nicht die längsten Arme). Der Bass spielt sich traumhaft, die kürzere Mensur und die engeren Bünde sind für mich optimal. Er klingt wie ein "grosser" ABER: Die werksseitig verbauten Fender-Saiten sind absolut stumpf und man bekommt einfach - selbst mit einem Markbass-Combo - einfach keinen vernünftigen Klang hin. Andere Saiten müssen zwingend drauf! Er hat ausserdem kleine Schwächen in der Verarbeitung - die Tonabnehmer sitzen etwas schief und die Saitenlage stimmte nicht. Ansonsten Top!
