Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient 7 Set BK

Overall, this pickup set has its own reputation and reviews could be found all over the internet. Thus, ? will not be talking about the tones of the pickup. I would like to focus on the physical aspect of it.

First of all, I gave quality 4 stars because of the QC that Seymour Duncan apparently did not really gave thought. My Nazgul Bridge pickup had a dried chunk of wax potting between its coils. It required me to peel it with a needle but a thin layer of yellow wax residue is visible. Mind you that this is all up to Seymour Duncan as the package was unopened and I, myself broke the seal of the box.

Secondly, they have huge polepieces. I have installed these to my RG1527 which used V87/V77 pickups. Nazgul/Sentient require 6mm more clearence than the latter set. If your guitar is using a vintage/vintage-hot output pickup, chances are you will need additional drilling. Though, this is not a drawback about this pickups. This is fairly normal for a passive contemporary pickup. Same issue would also occur with Bareknuckle Aftermaths etc.

Vorweg sei gesagt, dass ich generell ein Fan von Seymour-Duncan Tonabnehmern bin.

Verpackt kommen die Pickups wie üblich im Plastikkästchen mit Schaumstoff drin. Installationsanleitung, Schrauben, das übliche eben.

Was hier sofort positiv auffällt, ist das Plastikrahmen zur Montage mit enthalten sind. Bei dem ohnehin fairen Preis ein echter Pluspunkt für Leute wie mich, denen der rahmenlose Look nicht gefällt.

Die Installation ist wie üblich kein Hexenwerk, an der Stelle muss man allerdings die Hersteller-Website lobend erwähnen, hier gibt es Verdrahtungspläne für alle nur vorstellbaren Poti - und Tonabnehmer-Konfigurationen.

Ich habe die Gelegenheit genutzt, und bei der Gelegenheit gleich meine Jackson mit Push-Pull-Potis ausgestattet, um die volle Optionsvielfalt zu haben.

Zum Sound braucht man glaube ich nicht viel sagen, die Demo-Videos bei Youtube zeigen sehr gut was diese Pickups können.

Der Nazgul ist absolut brutal, sehr tight im Bass, artikuliert auch im High-Gain, er muss je nach Gitarre aber etwas über das Tone-Poti eingebremst werden. Für Metal der moderneren Art ist er jedenfalls bestens geeignet.

Erstaunlich rund und warm klingt der Sentient am Hals, er lässt sich ohne Probleme auch in "softeren" Genres einsetzen.

Wenn man beide Pickups gleichzeitig und/oder im Splitbetrieb nutzt, ergeben sich viele Möglichkeiten auch weit jenseits des Metal.

Für mich jedenfalls ein absolut empfehlenswertes Set, was meine eher preisgünstige Jackson absolut aufgewertet hat.
